  • Mindfulness Meditation for The Modern Mind

The Modern Mind is a collection of lists. A list of lists. Each list consists of tasks, priorities, values, desires, jobs, people, memories and so-on. The lists continually revolve in our minds leading to the overload that is all part of the modern life.

Imagine what life would be like without this constantly overflowing stream of wants, needs, fears, worries, doubts and other emotionally charged thoughts.
Mindfulness is the undistracted awareness of the experience of the present moment. The present moment is the sensory experience of now. The sensory experience of now is overwhelmingly good for most people, for most of the time.
In the Mindfulness Meditation for the Modern Mind series, Robert will clarify how we can learn to calm and diminish this constant flow of internal messages to the point where they are proportional to the that experiences they represent. We can find balance and harmony, perspective and clarity from meditation.
In this session, Robert teaches how can become aware of the deep inner experience of thoughts arising in the mind and begin to rebalance the scales of the mind.
Meditations include the Modern Mind meditation.

  • Suffering
For many in the Modern World, there is an abiding sense that something is wrong with the world. It is difficult to put it into words but it is always there. Any one problem is only ever replaced by the next in the seemingly endless succession of problems to solve, difficulties that may lie ahead, uncertainties, worries, doubts and fears. This intervention of the modern world into what would otherwise be the serenity of our minds is the source of our suffering.Meditation and Mindfulness can help us to find perspective and learn to see life through a new lens.In this session, Robert explains suffering and how meditation works to diminish it. He also teaches key meditations from the perspective of, and the context of releasing suffering.Meditations are: the meditation of no meditation for sound, the 4-6 Breaths, the four tens meditation, the relaxation response.

  • Mastering Meditation Week 6. Too Busy to Meditate
Listen to this podcast to learn how you can effortlessly begin a simple and sustainable meditation practice without struggling against your busy mind, and without needing to find the time in your busy life.Meditation teachers have historically given new meditators the opposite of what they want. You want a calm mind but you soon become keenly aware of the frantic nature of your mind as you try to learn the strange new practice of meditation. You are already overwhelmed with tasks, appointments, priorities and activites and the meditation teacher gives you yet another thing to do!There is however, fortunately, an easier and softer way. Along with the mental practices and the disciplined training methods learned from Buddhist and Hindu monasteries and temples, we have also imported from the East the brilliant concept of Wu Wei.Wu Wei is a Daoist concept that is usually translated as the ‘action of no action’. Wu Wei is actually the practice of using the forces of the universe, nature and the mind to bring us to where we wish to be, instead of applying the typical Western bull-headed method of trying to bend reality to our will through force and pressure.Using Wu Wei, and having learned a key meditation practice from the great meditation teacher, Mingyur Rinpoche, Robert has developed, and now teaches ‘The Practice of No Practice’. The Practice of No Practice Is an Effortless and Frictionless meditation training method that removes the stress induced by our typical modern goal-oriented and willpower-based approach. The Practice of No Practice is a combination of the Meditation of No Meditation and the Four Tens Meditation taught in a way that overcomes out typical Western black and white approach to learning.

  • Mastering Meditation Series - Week 5. Meditation and Focus
Focused Attention meditation is at the heart of every useful mediation practice. Before we can positively affect our lives, we need to be present to do so. While our minds wander, they leave us incapable of addressing our real lives which are a collection of present moments. To train this we need to practice noticing that our minds have wandered and train ourselves to be present.MeditationsRobert guides four familiar practices from the perspective of focus on the present moment:
The meditation of no meditation for sound - 10 minutes
The meditation of no meditation for the breath - 19 minutes
Counting the breaths - 29 minutes
Following the breath - 41 minutes
