SmackDown Review

September 12, 2025

Norfolk Scope: Norfolk, VA

• Take us back to the Monday Night War. This was the building that, while hosting WCW Monday Nitro, DX famously drove a tank up to the doors and fired a shot. Were you there for that Nitro? Was Eric’s decision to close the doors the right thing to do?

Brock Lesnar Returns:

• In your opinion, was returning Ron Killings back to the R-Truth persona the right thing to do? Has he more to offer at this stage of his career in a comedic role?
• Should Brock, in his current heel role, have mouthpiece?
• With Brock being in a top-line return feud with John Cena, that pits an Alpha vs. Alpha. An A+ vs. an A+… As the working relationship continues? SHOULD Brock be used to elevate younger talent, or should he be used in that Andre The Giant special attraction role?

Solo Sikoa Vignette:

• Preference of character… OG Bloodline Enforcer or Head of the New Bloodline (MFT)?
• What needs to be done to take him to that next level?

WWE U.S. Title Open Challenge:

• Sami Zayn vs. Rey Fenix

• First time ever match… I love the Open Challenge concept. It provides a showcase to shine for athletes that might not be involved in current on-screen feuds. Who else would you like to see gain some TV time?
• Sami’s timing and ring awareness are exceptional. Opinions of dodging/countering finishers as opposed to kick outs…
• The US Title Open Challenge… is Sami Zayn the right person to hold this position? 100% in my opinion.
• Fantastic match!! Did everything it needed to entertain fans without coming over as a campy spot-fest.
• Rey Fenix / Penta debuting as singles characters on separate brands. Is there more room for expansion this way?

Wyatt Sicks Vignette

• I appreciate the differences in production, making these segments seem more sinister; teasing the poison lingering between the Street Profits.

• Guilia vs. B-Fab

• Match never begins due to interference from Kiana James & Michin.

• The BIGeGEST and MOST controversial news of the week. WrestleMania 43 is coming to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Let’s open Pandora’s box, and explain what this means to talent, fans and the WWE landscape moving forward? Right decision? Is money everything (this is a business after all)?

Aleister Black Promo:

• What I took from this segment is that I want to see more of Black…
• With Black having one of the more unique gimmicks in pro-wrestling today, I’m going to take Adam Bomb back to gimmick heaven…. WINNER STAYS ON… Gimmicks of WWF’s New Generation

WWE Women’s Championship Match:

• Tiffany Stratton vs. Jade Cargill

• Stratton going undefeated in 2025 is a fantastic stat. Wrath knows all about undefeated streaks; talk to us about the pros and cons of holding that distinction…

• The brilliance of Chelsea Green. She shines so brightly, that in a black & white world; she’s full colour.
• Carmelo Hayes next in line for the US Title.

Main Event:

• Drew McIntyre vs. Randy Orton

John Cena’s Final Smackdown Appearance

Winner Stays On… SmackDown Announcers!!!

• The Miz & Carmelo backstage interaction with Nick Aldis; Becky Lynch arrives at Smackdown. You know you’ve made it when you get a limo arena arrival, right?

• Aleister Black vs.. Damien Priest

• 2 phenomenal talents. Told a great story thoughout this segment. How do today’s stars elevate themselves to become A+ Talent like a Cena / Lesnar / Punk / Reigns / Rollins?
• Personal feeling is that Black has “IT” and with his dark persona could very easily slot into a rivalry with a top star, like a CM Punk, Cody Rhodes. Discuss…
• Priest: Better as a Babyface or a Heel? Would he benefit from having a mouthpiece? Importance of Managers in Professional Wrestling…
• Would Black benefit from fronting a faction in WWE as he did in AEW?

AAA Worlds Collide Commercial

• Has WWE turned a Mexican institution into just another brand?

Randy Orton / Drew McIntyre Promo

• Always bringing outs the best in each other, next week’s showdown of these 2 Alphas, has stirred my interest, in what should be an epic encounter to continue their story.

Tiffany Stratton Interview / Jade & Nia Jax Confrontation / Becky Lynch & Nick Aldis Interaction

• A perfect example of pulling the trigger at the right time. Tiffany looks like a star, with a very viable threat from Jade. Would Jade make a better dominant heel at this stage of her WWE Journey?

WWE Women’s United States Title Match:

• Giulia vs. Michin

• As

Charlotte Flair / Alexa Bliss Trainers Room Vignette

• It’s… something?!

Seth Rollins / Becky Lynch / CM Punk / AJ Lee - Final Segment

• AJ LEE RETURNS after 10 year absence
• This show close just made me want more.
• Excellent, definitive role alignments for the babyfaces and heels, both played to perfection. Chickenshit bullies, home town favourites.
• Was this the perfect was to reintroduce AJ to a new viewing audience? The WWE’s PLE debut on ESPN is shaping up to be a monumental, can’t miss event. Firing on all cylinders…

Meltdown Mailbag

• Fallon Robinson in Winter Garden, FL

“You get to pick your own opponent to slot into a 3 Month programme with. Which current star would you choose as your rival?

Clash In Paris 2025 Intricate set Incredibly hot crowd - Soccer Crowd-esque Bronson Reed vs. Roman Reigns

• Roman Reigns has only competed 4 times in 2025
• Massive opportunity for Reed to elevate his status.
• Netflix censoring chants - they fail to notice “Fuck You Bronson” due to the French accent.
• Next logical step for Reed the Intercontinental Title?
• Affective story-telling to enhance Reed without giving him the W. Bronson had a counter for all Reigns offense. The schoolyard bully was toppled, Roman retrieves his stolen property (Shoe-La Fala), and finally gets his hands on Heyman.
• Bron Breakker halts the celebration. The next natural step in Roman’s journey to get to Reed?
• If the aim is to get The Vision to WarGames, who else would you add to the group at this stage?

Street Profits vs. Wyatt Sicks

• Have the Wyatts lived up to the hype, or was the promotional juggernauts expectations just too high for the group?
• Has the persona hindered the performers?
• The story in this match was the simmering dissension between the Street Profits. Who is going to be the bigger star when the inevitable split happens?

WWE Women’s Intercontinental Title: Becky Lynch vs. Nikki Bella

• Is Nikki Bella a big enough star to draw additional eyes to the product to keep positioning her in prominent roles?
• What are your impressions as to what Becky Lynch brings to the Intercontinental Title?

“Donnybrook No Holds Barred Match”: Sheamus vs. Rusev

• European Wrestlers performing in front of a European Crowd.
• Sheamus’ 15 year WWE Career. What factor can be credited to his longevity?
• Crowd had died off after the women’s match; match placement is very important to get an audience reinvested and reinvigorated. How did the boys do to bring the hype?
• A few scary, snug gimmick spots. Talk to us about the use of weapons, and how it affects your preparation, presentation and any restrictions they may offer?
• What are the next steps you would now take to rebuild the star that is Rusev? Would Lana be in your plans

John Cena vs. Logan Paul

• Thoughts on how Logan Paul has transitioned from the world of Social Media to prominence in the Squared Circle…
• How over is John Cena?
• Who would you book as Cena’s final opponent?
• Has Cena’s babyface return meant more after the heel run between Elimination Chamber and SummerSlam?
• With word that the December PLE has been rebranded into a Saturday Night’s Main Event? Should this be the show where Cena rides into the sunset, or should the encore conclude at WrestleMania?
• Is John Cena the G.O.A.T?

30,343 Paris La Defense Arena Record World Heavyweight Title Fatal Four Way: Seth Rollins vs. CM Punk vs. LA Knight vs. Jey Uso

• Is Jey USO’s entrance the best in modern history?
• Have WWE missed the boat failing to pull the trigger earlier on LA Knight?
• Comparisons between Punk/Rollins to Batman/Joker
• Did we see any character development throughout the main event?
• Was the reveal of Becky Lynch being involved in the finish the right thing to do? Is she now to be involved as part of The Vision story moving forward?

• ESPN deal
• Becky Lynch’s Birmingham Heel Promo (the mentioning of Ozzy Osbourne)
• Chris Jericho’s next step
• Jake Hager’s online rants
• Congratulations to Naomi & Jimmy Uso on their pregnancy announcement.

Dangerous Danny Davis

Are you ready for a fast count? A slow count? Some dubious refereeing?? Either way, he’s over like rover, and ready to make the 1-2-3 on The Meltdown, as Bryan & Tom proudly welcome to the show a true pro-wrestling legend, “Dangerous” Danny Davis!!

The Bomb Shelter was alight with laughter and sensational stories, as Danny opened up about some many incredible topics including:

• His start in the Pro Wrestling Business
• Working as Enhancement Talent, Mr X!
• Sharing a ring with Chief Jay Strongbow and Bruno Sammartino
• His Mount Rushmore of Enhancement Talent!!!
• The crooked referee gimmick
• Turning full fledged heel aligning with the Hart Foundation and Jimmy Hart.
• Working in front of 93,173 fans at WrestleMania III and GOING OVER!!
• Career highlights with George “The Animal” Steele, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, Rowdy Roddy Piper and so many more…
• The legacy of Hulk Hogan
• The impact of the Ultimate Warrior
• Travel struggles with Andre The Giant and Yokozuna
• Refereeing at WrestleMania X with Doink & Dink vs. Bam Bam & Luna
