It was Sunday morning in the hospital chapel onboard our hospital ship.  The church service was underway, and the African music was lively.  But one small patient couldn’t fully participate.

Morgan Jones is the owner of one of the world’s largest pawn shops.  He received mailings from Mercy Ships for years, but he tossed them in the rubbish bin.  Then a close friend urged him to open one.  

Leon Logothetis used to be a broker – sitting at a desk, working 12-hour days.  Something had to change.

There are a lot of great charities who do superb work.  That means that someone with a desire to serve has a lot of choices in ways to do that.  So, why Mercy Ships? 

Jean Burgmeier of Dubuque, Iowa, is afraid of heights. As a child, her parents warned her to stay away from Eagle Point Bluffs.

Mercy Ships goes to the poorest countries in the world to meet immediate medical needs.  But also we offer training for local healthcare professionals.  Then they train others. 

Soccer is the most popular sport in the world.  But many of the world’s children make soccer balls out of whatever they can find—rags, for example.

Kirsten volunteers as an ICU nurse onboard our hospital ship, the Africa Mercy.  She was frustrated because her patient, Victoria, rarely smiled, never spoke, and kept her face turned to the wall most of the day.

Jozy Altidore is passionate about playing professional soccer for the United States.  But he’s also passionate about bringing fresh water to five million people of Haiti who don’t have it.

The volunteers onboard our hospital ship pay room and board in order to serve the poor.  But their generosity doesn’t stop there.
