People often ask what kind of work Mercy Ships volunteers can do. Luke Taje, from Canada, answers that question well!

Worship time in the ward onboard our hospital ship is noisy.  It’s a beautiful time – everyone sings and many dance.

Hospital patients lined up outside their doors.  Excitement was in the air! Finally, the special visitor arrived – 22 pounds of cuddly warmth wrapped in a spaniel named Toby.

Joseph received the daunting diagnosis of cancer.  He was thankful that medical care was available, but he dreaded the treatments.  A group of friends at the Nazarene Church in Longview, Texas, faithfully prayed for him.  But they also wanted to give him a tangible reminder of their prayers.

An estimated 300 million people are blind.  Most live in the poorest countries.  The main cause is cataracts.  A simple 20-minute surgery could restore sight.  But lack of medical care condemns these souls to live in darkness.

Fighter pilot Colonel Bud Day survived the “Hanoi Hilton,” the infamous prison camp in North Vietnam.  He managed to escape once, but was recaptured.  His Vietnamese guard broke his arm, saying, “I told you I’d make you a cripple.”
