Mercy Ships crewmembers come from more than 40 countries to serve onboard our hospital ship, the Africa Mercy.  Canadian Luke Taje explains how people from so many nations and cultures get along

Joseph received the daunting diagnosis of cancer.  He was thankful that medical care was available, but he dreaded the treatments.  A group of friends at the Nazarene Church in Longview, Texas, faithfully prayed for him.  But they also wanted to give him a tangible reminder of their prayers.

An estimated 300 million people are blind.  Most live in the poorest countries.  The main cause is cataracts.  A simple 20-minute surgery could restore sight.  But lack of medical care condemns these souls to live in darkness.

A Mercy Ships volunteer nurse, Emily Seamon, describes a special moment with a patient.

Fighter pilot Colonel Bud Day survived the “Hanoi Hilton,” the infamous prison camp in North Vietnam.  He managed to escape once, but was recaptured.  His Vietnamese guard broke his arm, saying, “I told you I’d make you a cripple.”

Jeremy was born with severe learning problems and a terminal illness.  He was a 12-year-old in a second-grade classroom.  At Easter, his teacher, Mrs. Miller, gave her 19 students plastic eggs to fill with something that showed new life.

Mercy Ships crewmember Luke Taje serves in security and the deck department onboard our hospital ship, the Africa Mercy.  But he still interacts with the patients we serve. 

Rosie Timms volunteered in Admissions on our hospital ship in Guinea.  One evening she took a bottle of baby oil to the ward to give foot rubs.  A family member of one of the patients took the bottle of oil.  He started to rub it on the feet of a man who was sleeping with his feet sticking out over the end of the bed.
