Mercy Ships volunteer Rosie Timms thought spending Christmas onboard our hospital ship might be lonely. But she was surprised.

It was December 1943.  Young Charles Brown was on his first combat mission.  His B-17 bomber had been severely crippled by enemy fire.

Some of our crew got creative at Christmas.

Eight-year-old Atasse received a free surgery onboard our hospital ship in the Republic of Congo to correct his misshapen feet.  His grandmother described her gratitude.

A man named Simon emigrated from the Netherlands to the United States and married an American woman.  Their three children married spouses from Panama, Portugal and South Korea.  Now that’s an international family!

In honor of the Christmas season, I want to tell you a story about a Mercy Ships Santa – a little, three-year-old girl named Santa.  She lives in Madagascar and experienced a terrible tragedy.

Army Sergeant Matt Wilder was in his fourth tour of duty in Iraq, with only six months left.  So, it was unlikely he’d be home for Christmas.  One of his two daughters said she wished he could be wrapped up and mailed home.
