When Mike and Susan Silverstein committed to Mercy Ships for two years, they were unsure of the people they would meet.  But, one late night surprise gave them a pretty clear picture.

Eight-year-old Josias desperately wanted to go to school.  But the other children ridiculed him because of a huge tumor on the ride side of his face and neck.  

The organization’s newsletter states, “People still remain the best return on investment of all time.”

Rosie Timms volunteered in Admissions on our hospital ship in Guinea.  One evening she took a bottle of baby oil to the ward to give foot rubs. 

Verlie Turknett sent this story about her granddaughter’s mercy to Woman’s Day magazine. 

Eleven-year-old Dudou’s stepmother brought him to the Mercy Ship for eye surgery.  She told the nurse, “He’s such an ugly child.”

Herminia is from the Philippines.  At the age of 64, her vision began to blur. 

Mercy Ships ministers to “the world’s forgotten poor.”  But our patients’ loving, joyful spirit makes them wealthier than the richest people in the world.
