A volunteer Mercy Ships surgeon describes the transformation of a patient who as a young girl received surgery on board our hospital ship.

Volunteering on board our hospital ship is an exciting experience.  But it can be a little intimidating at first. 

Many of our patients go years struggling with conditions that leave them in pain and isolated from others. Once they finally find healing, their entire futures change, and their joy and gratitude sometimes comes through gifts

It was a quiet South African evening on our former hospital ship, the Anastasis. Our volunteer staff made rounds and gave reassurance to those in their care.
