Bass (and Bassists) in Metal occupy 1 of 2 spots, and they're literally at opposite sides of the spectrum.

Side 1 - No one knows who they are and can't really tell you what they do.

Side 2 - They're so famous that anytime someone mentions a Bass player, they're the only ones to get mentioned.

We're pulling over in Grungeville, because gotta talk about Stone Temple Pilots for a minute. San Diego's own stormed the hot new Grunge scene and then quickly shifted, leaning way more into the Alternative side for a while, and all while dealing with a troubled yet phenomenal frontman. Although it didn't last long, the rise was very fast and the peak was extremely high, and having a massive impact still to this day.
