INTRODUCTION FROM OUR HOST, VINNIE HINES:
"I just recorded another MICPodcast from the camper van, with the turkeys and the chickens out the side. That was kinda cool. Talking to Willy Chill about the importance of international travel, the importance of staying inspired by your own narrative, and creating a narrative wild and exciting enough to get your Superfans and your Super Clients involved.
And we kind of talk about some of the ways that people carve their idea of who their Superfans might be. When in reality, you can figure out exactly who they are. And two pretty simple ways. And we talk about that in the post. We also talk about some of our travel plans. He's going international. I'm going international.
I'm going to be driving across the country hitting up most of the music festivals, touring full time, and talking about some of the strategies on how I'm making money on the road. And we're going to have some YouTube videos coming out. As soon as well. But a lot of really great high-level topics about how human relationships transfer into scaling your music business, no matter what field you're in using tech stacks outsourcing, and why you probably don't need a team.
You don't need a manager, and as he said so eloquently at the end of the podcast, he gave his thoughts on your resolutions for 2022 and some solutions for how you might think of that better. So definitely listen to the whole podcast, a lot of really great stuff. Presenting my conversation with Willy Chill."
===
In this MICPodcast episode you'll learn answers to the following questions:
-How are modern music businesses traveling safely and affordably?
-What type of budget management should I expect on tour?
-What are some ways I can make extra money while traveling or on tour?
-Should I stay in swanky, upper-class lodging or go for economy level accomodations?
-How can I reach out to cities on my tour/travel list and connect with locals and other creatives?
-What music festivals and conferences are important in 2022 for independent music businesses?
-What are some 2022 plans for Artist Collective and the team?

Evan Price is the CEO of Artist Collective and he has one life's mission: to get artists back to the music. He aims to do this through his personal brand of inspiration, time management, and well... branding! He urges artists to take control of their own careers using a foolproof 4-step system he and his team developed to critical acclaim in 2020. When most music companies were pulling budgets and cutting employees, Evan recognized a deep need for independent music business development outside of the mainstream. His efforts were recognized by Billboard when Artist Collective was named one of the top virtual education platforms for musicians during the pandemic by providing virtual workshops, panels, and consultations.
You can expect to see Evan all around the country, teaching keynotes and seminars on his expertise of branding and the sole pursuit of Superfans. He and his team at Artist Collective are now looking for Creative Coaches, Producers, Studio Owners, and Venues to work with. His confidence in his program is so strong that he offers those that are approved a money-back guarantee, boasting that if it's not "the best money you've spent on your music business, you can have your money back!"

Lauren Trayhan is co-founder and VP of Marketing for the National Organization of Independent Songwriters. When she's not talking about publishing, she's surfing, playing bass, and adventuring around the US. She truly is living her passion and her Instagram account can spark wanderlust in just about anyone! theNOIS is an interesting organization that focuses on the little guys in the indie circuits with all sorts of way to recoup missing royalties. We love so much of their mission statement and verbiage to support the independent musicians across the country and this MICPodcast episode is chocked full of epic industry knowledge.
theNOIS founding team is made up of producers, artist managers, songwriters, and tech specialists from JP Morgan Chase. Our own need to have a simple catalog management tool led us to ultimately build out a publishing administration company, Killphonic Rights, for independent publishers as private clients, most notably Sumerian Records. We decided to adapt our powerful technology into a platform available to all independent songwriters, and thus theNOIS was born. Our mission is to make royalty collection as easy as possible for all independents - songwriters, publishers, and labels alike - and continue to educate and advocate on publishing, royalties, and the value of publishing in the current music landscape.
In this episode of the MICPodcast, we. break down the core elements of how independent songwriters can collect their royalties worldwide, in addition to these questions:
-What is mechanical licensing in the music business?
-What ways can independent songwriters be taken advantage of in their careers?
-Who is theNOIS?
-What are music publishing royalties?
-Where are independent musicians missing music money?
-How can you collect music royalties?
