Listen Saturday at 9AM as Rick Preuss from Preuss Pets, Doctor Will Schultz, DVM (retired) and Lee Cohen are joined by guest producer of this week's show, Holly Rotter as we learn from national experts about them. First up is Kyle Bagnall, Naturalist for Michigan State Parks who is based on Mackinac Island. You'll hear about their history on the Island and the important role that they play by eating mosquitos and other pests. Pollination is a big contribution as well as you will hear. You'll also learn about White Nose Fungus which is wiping out huge percentages of bat populations. Next up is ran Hutchins who is the Director of Bracken Cave Preserve in San Antonio, Texas. It is the home to the largest colony of bats on the planet. Pat explains why they are so important and what to do if you find one on the ground. He also helps explain the disparate effect that White Nose Fungus has on different varieties of bats. Last is Erin Cord the Community Partnership Manager at Bat Conservation International in Austin, Texas. Erin teaches how to attract bats utilizing certain flowers, plants and trees. Placing bat houses in favorable environments and even what types of lights will attract them.
