When the Atlanta Braves host the Washington Nationals on Wednesday night it will be Touki Toussaint taking the mound for the Braves as their starting pitcher and not the left-handed veteran Drew Smyly. Smyly signed an $11 Million, 1 year contract with the Braves but has been underwhelming since his arrival in Atlanta.

Smyly’s last start for the Braves came on August 30th against the Los Angeles Dodgers and in that start Smyly gave up four home runs and a total of five earned runs in just under five innings pitched. Since then Smyly has had one appearance out of the bullpen, which came this past Saturday against the Rockies. Smyly was sharp in that one inning striking out one batter while only needing nine pitches to get through the inning.

With Smyly’s underwhelming performance lingering throughout the season the Braves have decided to take a longer look at Toussaint who is coming off a rough start himself. Last Thursday in Colorado he went three innings giving up four earned runs and six hits.

If the Braves truly are giving Toussaint a shot to be a part of this rotation rest of season, then tonight’s game is big for his chances moving forward.

Earlier today Andy and Randy talked about what Smyly’s role could be with the Braves the rest of this season. Take a listen.

Andy Bunker and Randy McMichael were joined by Tori McElhaney from the Atlanta Falcons who helped preview the Sunday’s Week 1 game between the Falcons and the Philadelphia Eagles.

The conversation turned to where the Falcons might have an advantage over the Eagles on Sunday with Bunker asking McElhaney, “What do you think is the matchup that favors the Falcons the most?”

“It’s going to sound silly but Kyle Pitts. It’s going to be fun to watch Kyle Pitts for the very first time. When I think about this game, to me, it’s like we finally get to see how much of a matchup nightmare he is.  And I think that is going to be very interesting to watch because we didn’t get to see Kyle Pitts in the preseason outside of one snap,” McElhaney answered.

“I just don’t think it’s Kyle Pitts versus one guy. I think they are going to try and kind of spread out those mismatches, see what they can get out of Kyle Pitts and that’s what I am really excited to see because we haven’t gotten to see it and this is what we have been talking about since Kyle Pitts has been drafted,” McElhaney continued.
