Should the 10 Commandments be posted in public school classrooms? One YouTube atheist said definitely not, and Big Jon Steel had a problem with that. So, here, I respond to Big Jon's response. All kinds of fun!

YouTube Christian Apologist, Big Jon Steel, tries to debunk an Atheist's video about why she doesn't find Heaven appealing. I guess we can't even have opinions anymore. Anyway, in his retorts, I find a lot of things to comment on.

God will help you find your car keys — but won’t stop a famine. He’ll bless your football team — but ignore war, cancer, and starving kids.

So let’s ask the obvious: if prayer works, why does God only seem to care about the trivial stuff? And if the big prayers go unanswered, maybe the problem isn’t timing… maybe no one’s actually listening.

In this Mighty Philbert Friday Rant, we break down the absurdity of “selective miracles” — from football games to Magic 8 Balls.

The pulpit is supposed to be a place of truth, but sometimes it becomes a stage for betrayal, abuse, and mass death.

In Part 2 of The Dark Side of the Pulpit, we dive into three haunting stories:

• 🩸 Murder Ordained: Pastor Tom Bird and church secretary Lorna Anderson — an affair that turned into conspiracy and two suspicious deaths.
• 🔥 Jack Schaap: A megachurch pastor who used “biblical counseling” as cover for grooming and abuse.
• ☠️ Jim Jones & Jonestown: The deadliest sermon in history — more than 900 lives lost in the jungle of Guyana.

These aren’t ghost stories. They’re true. And they remind us how easily faith can become fear when power goes unchecked.

Jesus prayed for unity — “that they may all be one.” Two thousand years later, Christianity has thousands of denominations, endless fights, bloody wars, and church splits nastier than Thanksgiving dinner with your in-laws.

So here’s the question: if God didn’t answer Jesus’ own prayer, why do Christians still believe prayer works?

In this episode of The Mighty Philbert, we’ll break down the chaos of Christian history, from Reformation bloodbaths to modern culture wars, and ask the uncomfortable question: maybe those unanswered prayers weren’t ignored at all. Maybe there was never anyone listening.

Teen Mania Ministries promised transformation. What it delivered was trauma. From Acquire the Fire rallies to the Honor Academy’s ESOAL “boot camp,” Ron Luce’s empire used cult-like tactics, unpaid labor, and financial mismanagement that left thousands of kids broken and betrayed. In this episode, I break down the history, scandals, lawsuits, and survivor stories that reveal the dark truth behind one of evangelical America’s biggest youth movements.

👉 Sources include MSNBC’s Mind Over Mania, Shiny Happy People: A Teenage Holy War, survivor testimonies, and reporting from Christianity Today, People, and The Roys Report.

⚡ Remember: You don’t have to be religious to do the right thing.

Church is supposed to be a place of sanctuary. But behind the robes and pulpits, some pastors and priests carried out the darkest of crimes.

In this special episode, The Mighty Philbert takes a haunting look at:

• Pastor Arthur Burton Schirmer, who staged his wife’s death as a car crash.
• Father Gerald Robinson, convicted of the 1980 chapel murder of Sister Margaret Ann Pahl.
• Reverend Paul Jennings Hill, who called his shotgun murders a “holy mission.”

And finally—the countless quiet cases you’ll never hear about on the news, where violence hides under the guise of faith.

The Mighty Philbert is back, and this time we’re pulling the curtain on how fear has become America’s favorite religion.

From the assassination of Charlie Kirk to Trump’s threats against Democrats and non-Christians, to the hypocrisy of “canceling” Jimmy Kimmel for daring to make jokes — we’re watching the same cult playbook that fueled the Satanic Panic and Hellfire preaching of the past, just now repackaged in red, white, and blue.

This isn’t a left vs. right episode. This is about fear as a tool of control — in pulpits, podiums, and politics. Christian Nationalism isn’t about faith, it’s about power. Fear-based voting isn’t about protecting democracy, it’s about selling apocalypse for clicks and control.

As Gen-X survivors of the Satanic Panic, we’ve seen this before. The faces change, the fear doesn’t.

They told us purity rings would protect us. They told us pledge cards would keep us safe. They told us teen sexuality could be shut down with a contract and a youth pastor’s pep talk. Spoiler: they were wrong.

In this episode of The Mighty Philbert, we dive deep into the world of 90s purity culture—the rings, the pledge cards, the awkward ceremonies, and the crushing shame it left behind. We’ll hear real survivor stories, look at the fallout from abstinence-only “education,” and rip apart the absurdity with plenty of sarcasm along the way.

From being compared to chewed gum, to panicking over a broken purity ring, to pastors demonizing teens who had already “messed up”—this isn’t just nostalgia, it’s trauma. But there’s hope: we’ll also highlight resources where survivors are reclaiming healthy, shame-free sexuality. If you grew up in this culture, you are not broken. You are not ruined. And you are definitely not chewed gum.
