Australians have the opportunity to show their government whether they support legalising marriage equality over the next eight weeks

The non-binding postal vote on whether they support or oppose the legalisation of same-sex marriage is opening tomorrow.

Australian Correspondent Steve Price told Larry Williams politicians on both sides have been campaigning hard.

"Former Prime Minister John Howard is firmly in the no camp. He addressed Liberal Party meeting, in Sydney yesterday, on the same day that the current Prime Minster Malcolm Turnbull attended a yes rally."

The party's announced it would cut the job seekers benefit in half for young people without children, who don't take up work experience or recreational drug rehab.

Beneficiary advocate Kay Brereton told Larry Williams it mostly punishes young people who have barriers to employment.

"Youths under 25 are already very actively case managed, no one knows what the work experience actually means and people assume it probably means work for the dole."
