One of the world's biggest pop stars has taken the stand in a case where she says she was groped by a radio DJ.

Taylor Swift said she was subjected to a very long and intentional grope by a Colorado disc jockey, who appeared to be drunk during a photo session.

US correspondent Richard Arnold told Mike Hosking David Mueller said he was fired after Swift's people complained to his boss.

"She says he grabbed her underneath her skirt, something she said was not seen by others because they were taking a photo and had their backs to the wall."

Mueller has already testified, saying he may have made innocent contact with Swift but denies any inappropriate behaviour.

A decision to stop funding projects from the proceeds of pokies should help maintain Hamilton City Council's impartiality.

The council's voted 8-3 in favour of the move.

Hamilton Mayor Andrew King told Mike Hosking up until now, the council has been the decision makers on where pokies go, as well as benefiting from them.

"It's like we are the regulator, the benefactor, the game keeper and the poacher and that's not quite right."

He said smaller groups have missed out.

"There only coming to save $10,000 for a rugby trip away or whatever they need and we were coming in with our higher skill set and taking all the money."

King said it wasn't right for the council to be regulating the machines, while also benefiting from them.

Sanitarium is giving its side of the stoush it's having with Christchurch's A Little Bit of Britain store.

General Manager Rob Scoines said it's not about preventing people buying their Weetabix through the store.

He told Mike Hosking it's about protecting its own Weet-Bix brand.

"We have to respond to each and every known breach of our trademark, otherwise it chips away at the value and equity of the brand, and these brands and trademarks are essential to running commerce in this country."

Pregnant women are being advised to take Vitamin B3 to help prevent miscarriages and birth defects.

Australian research on mice has found miscarriages are sometimes caused by gene mutations in a molecule called NAD and the way to fixing them, is by increasing levels of Vitamin B3.

Professor at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute Sally Dunwoodie told Mike Hosking more research needs to be done to determine just how much B3 is needed.

"What we would recommend is that pregnant women, in the end stage of pregnancy take a pregnancy multivitamin and that's has a standard amount of vitamin B3 and that's the best advice we can give at the moment."

Dunwoodie said they still have some way to go to figure out just how much Vitamin B3 someone needs to take.

"It depends how deficient you are in NAD and therefore how much B3 you need to raise those levels of NAD again."

Concerns the US President is going to talk his country into more serious trouble with North Korea.

Following on from Trump's threats of fire and fury, US Defence Secretary Jim Mattis has told Pyongyang to stop actions that would see the end its regime and the destruction of its people.

North Korea Expert at Bradford University, Professor Paul Rogers told Mike Hosking the only way through this tension is diplomacy - something President Trump appears to lack.

"So you have a president on the United States side who is frankly highly egotistical and is more interested almost in his own political standing than thinking through how to handle this political crisis."

Singer-songwriter Stevie Nicks has announced she is returning to New Zealand this November.

The former Fleetwood Mac star will play Auckland's Spark Arena and Dunedin's Forsyth Barr Stadium as part of her 24 Karat Gold tour.

Nicks will be joined by The Pretenders, with whom Nicks recently completed a sold-out tour of the US.

Labour is being told not to get too big for its boots, following the latest poll results.

The party has jumped nine points to 33.1 percent in the latest Newshub-Reid Research poll.

New leader Jacinda Ardern has also had a whopping lift in support, increasing 17.6 points as preferred Prime Minister to 26.3 percent.

Former Labour President Mike Williams told Mike Hosking it's early days.

"Look for the second poll, not the first, and I think what we've got to do is see whether this becomes established as a trend."

He said generally, Green support doesn't come from electorates with a large number of beneficiaries.

Williams said a lot of it comes from quite wealthy electorates like Wellington Central.

"I think that possibly what has happened is that the Metiria Turei shemozzle has burnt off a lot of that middle class support."

The Greens knew they would take a hit.

The party has dropped 4.7 points to 8.3 percent in the latest Newshub-Reid Research poll.

Just before the results came out, Metiria Turei resigned as co-leader of the party, after facing heat for admitting she committed benefit fraud.

Now sole party leader James Shaw told Mike Hosking the result is about what he thought it would be.

"We knew that the Jacinda effect was going to be significant and of course we also knew there is a lot of distraction around Metiria's story, but we've also been in worse shape."

He said the drop is down to both the Turei saga and the Jacinda effect.

"I will be you know gutted frankly if we end up on six percent and I don't think there is any reason why we will. I think that we've got every chance of at least bringing in what we have got at the moment if not more."

Ex-Green MP Sue Bradford said Metiria Turei's paid a heavy price for honesty.

Ms Turei stood down as co-leader last night, announcing she'll leave Parliament at the election.

Sue Bradford told Mike Hosking she doubts Ms Turei and her advisors fully understood the consequences of opening up about her past.

"She is paying a really heavy price for it but at the same time the fact that the Greens took this really strong stand on welfare and Metiria put herself on the line, has attracted a lot of support that wasn't there before."
