  • MMP 097 : Building a Successful Restaurant Chain with No Experience w/ Stephan Harman
Stephan Harman is the Co-Founder of FUSIAN, a fast-casual restaurant for sushi rolls and bowls with 10 locations in Ohio, and growing. Stephan founded FUSIAN back in 2010 in his early 20's, at a time in life when most of us are just starting to realize college is over and the real world is hard. I'm personally very excited for this episode because before I ever knew who Stephan was or that we had some mutual connections, I knew FUSIAN as this amazing sushi stop that I would frequent anytime I was driving through Columbus or Cincinnati. Aside from great food, they have developed a solid brand with a foundation in sustainability, culture and customer experience. • MMP 095 : Take Your Life From Ordinary to Extraordinary w/ Erik Seversen
Erik Seversen is a writer, speaker, adventurer, educator, and entrepreneur who refuses to let others tell him what he can or cannot do. This way of thinking stems back to when he was rejected from his dream school UCLA, and turned that setback into a challenge. He excelled in community college and got into UCLA two years later, where he graduated near the top of his class. And that's just the very tip of the spear with Erik. If you take a look at his resume of life experiences, you'd hardly believe that one person could accomplish everything that he's done. To list a few of these experiences, Erik has:
    • traveled to over 80 countries
    • been to 49 of the 50 states
    • ridden a motorcycle on 6 continents and crossed the USA on one twice
    • had a machine gun stuck in his mouth in Nigeria
    • summited the tallest mountains of 8 countries and 5 states
    • lived with a remote Indian tribe deep in the Amazon
    • helped a company grow from $7M to over $100,000,000 in ten years as VP of International Business Development
    • written a book, ORDINARY TO EXTRAORDINARY: An Average Person's Adventurous Search For Meaning, which comes out in March 2018
Erik's journey personifies the idea of living life with intention. He uses entrepreneurial success formulas and motivational materials in business, but he's also pioneering their use in the field of education. Links: http://erikseversen.com/millennial

  • MMP 090 : Secrets of Business Building from a Top Venture Capitalist w/ Warren Hogarth
There's a lot of advice out there on how to build a successful start-up and business. But much of that advice is coming from individuals who are hardly qualified to give it. That's why I talked to Warren Hogarth. Few are more qualified to share the secrets of building a successful business. First off, Warren is the Co-Founder and CEO of a successful app called Empower, which helps entrepreneurs and side hustlers stay on top of their finances. Empower was voted one of the best 25 apps of 2017 by Time Magazine. Additionally, before launching Empower, he spent eight years as a Partner at one of the top venture capital firms in the world, Sequoia Capital. At Sequoia, Warren was the lead investor and board member helping many entrepreneurs build companies from zero to over $1 billion. During his time at Sequoia, they invested in companies like Square, WhatsApp, Stripe, and AirBnB. Prior to any of Warren's success in business, he moved to the US from Australia in 2004 with a degree in chemical engineering. (Didn't see that one coming, did you?) He faced many challenges navigating the US financial system but didn't waste any time on his journey towards success. In this episode, Warren shares:
    • How he became a venture capitalist with a degree in Chemical Engineering
    • How he networked his way into one of the leading VC firms
    • What venture capitalists look for in a successful business
    • How he shifted gears to launch a top 25 app
    • What to do in your 20's to set yourself up for long-term success
