Welcome to The Mindful Coach podcast! On today's episode I wanted to celebrate Black history month in the UK by raising awareness of what it feels like to be black in white spaces, the importance of promoting racial equity in the workplace and how when we open ourselves up to vulnerability, we find the bravery to improve ourselves and to have difficult, important conversations with the people around us.
I am joined by Ayomide Akin, an inspiring colleague who co-leads the African & Caribbean network where she runs programmes and initiatives to ensure black people are supported and represented at work. When the Black Lives Matter movement started gaining momentum this year, Ayomide ran a global broadcast with our CEO, Julie Sweet, where she and others from her network courageously spoke out about the racial injustices they face.

Welcome back to The Mindful Coach podcast. In this episode, I wanted to discuss a topic that I’m quite passionate about - climate change and sustainability with my dear friend, Naek, a sustainability professional living in Berlin. Follow her at @ourimpactcounts.
Today, in 2020, we find ourselves in the middle of a crisis. Planet Earth is heating up, and we’re running out of time before we reach the point of no return. The next ten years are absolutely critical if we want a fighting chance of saving humanity from the worst effects of climate breakdown.
Not all of us witness the direct effects of climate change on a daily basis, but most of us are aware that the world today is quite different to how it was just a few decades ago and if you’d like to see this firsthand I highly recommend watching David Attenborough’s latest film “A life on our planet"which he calls his witness statement.
Climate change is a complex topic and whilst we don’t claim to be climate experts we do think it’s important to educate ourselves, seek out the truth and to translate that awareness into action by using our voice and making the changes required in our own lives.

Welcome to the first episode of the Mindful Coach podcast with sisters Lydia and Lucy Finnegan.
I’ve known these ladies for 15 years since going to the same school in Taiwan (shoutout to TES) and I wanted to discuss the different journeys they've been on and key learnings along the way.
Lydia has spoken out about her eczema journey and has built a great community discussing mental health and women empowerment. You can find her at @_lydslife on Instagram. Lucy has created an amazing lifestyle brand where she is helping women from all over the world get fitter and stronger with her exercise programmes. You can find her at @_lucymayfinnegan and her lifestyle account @lucymaylifestyle.
Some of the many topics explored in today's conversation include:
- Their experience of growing up as third culture kids having lived in Birmingham, Jersey and Taiwan
- Why not everyone needs to go to university
- The highs and lows of social media
- How Lucy’s lifestyle brand emerged
- Why finding your purpose is key to success
- What relationships have taught us about ourselves
Thanks again to Lydia and Lucy for being part of this journey and to the listeners for taking the time to listen to differing perspectives 🙏🏼.
I hope you enjoy this episode and I’d love it if you can leave me a review and let me know in the comments what topics you’d like me to discuss and any recommendations for guests.
Big love and stay mindful ✌🏼
