  • Leaning into Surrender

    Surrendering.

It feels scary, out of control, and down right hard.

In this week's episode we discuss how well (or not so well) we practice surrendering to what is, especially in school, and especially now. If you are like us, you might find it easy to resist, control, muscle or complain your way through challenging times like these. Listen in as we share our techniques for leaning into surrender allowing us to learn about ourselves which will help grow as people and as educators in new and amazing ways.

Join us in letting go of the reigns this year and practice surrendering during THE hardest time in education. We believe this mindful act of self-care will serve all of us well this year.

  • Criticism. Anger. Judgment.

    Criticism. Anger. Judgment.

These are harsh words that can be very impactful on our emotions and mindset.

In many places, the tides have turned right now on education and educators. In the spring, society as a whole were singing the praises of educators everywhere while we pulled off the unimaginable with very little training or time. And here we are now, with the pendulum seemingly swinging in the opposite direction.

This profession is one that we both chose, love, and are so proud of and hearing what people are saying about teachers is something we are really struggling with and you may be too.

So listen in to this episode where we discuss how to mindfully handle what seems to be a timely issue across the country right now.

    Criticism. Anger. Judgment.

And don't forget to check out the end of our podcast where we offer our own version of Show and Tell, where we share what we are into this week.

  • Showing up this year when you might feel like you can't
Welcome back friends to season 2 of our podcast. It's a hard time in the world right now and a hard time to be in education, and so in this week's episode we focus on how we as educators continue to show up and teach when we feel like we can't or don't want to? We discuss how looking too far ahead right now keeps us stuck and unmotivated while focusing on the smaller chunks allows us to feel less like we can't do it and more like we can do it. When we focus on these smaller chunks, things become more manageable and sustainable, And that brings hope. So listen in to how we are approaching our first day this year (our small chunk) to make it comfortable for us as well as for our students. Don't forget to check out the end of our podcast where we offer our own version of Show and Tell, where we share what we are into this week. • What's in your suitcase?
In this week's episode, we piggyback off of last week's podcast on uncertainty and how we can harness it to build resilience. We have been on such a unique and challenging trip during quarantine and to extend the metaphor, today we discuss how this transition into a world and life getting ready to open up a bit, is an opportunity to mindfully pause and reflect on what we will be bringing with us in our suitcase into the next stage of life. Through mindfulness we understand that we have no control over the external happenings in life. We don't know when school will open up, we don't know what our classes will look like, we don't know if we will be doing a split session, if we will be wearing a mask, or if our students will be sitting 6 feet apart. We don't know and probably won't know until it actually happens. But what we DO have control over is what our life will look like in terms of how we look at our time, relationships, activities, habits, and intentions. So listen in as we walk through a very simple reflective practice that yields a lot of wisdom, clarity, and freedom. And may we also suggest that this is not just a great end of the year reflection activity for you, but for your students, your children, your partners, and your colleagues to walk through as well. After listening, check out our student version of this end of the year activity to use in class by hopping over to Instagram @themindfuleducators and grabbing it from the link in our bio. And don't forget to check out the end of our podcast where we offer our own version of Show and Tell, where we share what we are into or what we have recently learned this week. We are wishing you all the space and grace you need to remain in good health, body, mind, and spirit.
