In this episode, our interview is with return guest Chris Suhre. We discussed his part in the upcoming "The Art of..." Volumes 4-6 Kickstarter by Dave Taylor. Chris is one of three artists in this Kickstarter along side Tommie Soule and Seyni N'Daive.
During our interview, Chris and I talk about what kind of content he's including in his book and what he wants the readers to come away with. Specifically, we talk about how much of the book is going to be instruction and how much is going to be Chris reflecting on past projects. A large percentage is going to be walking us through Chris' thought process and desision making from several of his past projects.
Overall this interview gave me a great insight into what to expect from "The Art of Chris Suhre" and I'm more excited to get my hand on these next three volumes.

Mocha shares how she started painting miniatures and the importance of smooth blends on every mini she paints. We also discuss the struggles she's had with feeling like she is ready to tackle more complex pieces. How does anyone know when they're ready to paint one of their dream miniatures, or should they just go for it?
Mocha also makes the point that not every miniature has to be better than the one before. There's nothing wrong with painting to a lower level if that is what will achieve the goal or purpoise you have for that project.
We also discuss how one of the worst disasters of her commission painting carrier was also one of the biggest triumphs in the development of her skills. Each project has the potential to be both the best and the worst we've ever done, but that shouldn't eve stop us from trying and continuing to learn.

Kris has been in this hobby since the late 1980s thanks to some of his older cousins and the first edition of Space Hulk. Ever since that first game, he's been painting and hobbing almost exclusively with Warhammer miniatures and games. Kris ended up working for Miniwargaing during the 2010s as the painting instructor for their content creation team which really launched his career as an educator in the miniature painting hobby.
Miniatures and miniature painting have been a huge part of his hobby, and canvas painting has been a massive part of Kris' art. We have a great discussion about Kris' perspective on miniatures and art, and whether or not miniatures can be art that stands the test of time or not.
We also dive into what it means to be a full-time miniature painting educator and what impact that has on Kirs' ability to improve and develop his own skills.

Shoshie is a professional miniature commission painter, painting teacher at conventions, and private painting coach. She switched from painting watercolors to dedicating herself to miniature painting as a profession after finding that her beautiful miniatures sold for more than the watercolors were.
She shares a lot of her professional insights into commission miniature painting, teaching classes, and building a professional career as a miniature painter. We cover a lot of additional topics covering who her favorite miniature painters are, what inspires her, failures she's recovered from, and more.

Zambies' entry into the miniature painting hobby is one I've never heard of before. She had always been creating art growing up, and she went to school to become a graphic designer. She didn't discover miniatures until she checked out a friend's Twitch channel who happened to be sharing a miniature painter's stream. After that, she started to seek out other miniature painters on Twitch and discovered the wider community.Have questions or feedback? Send us a message!
Mike and I sit down to talk about his career in miniature painting so far, and I was surprised to hear that Mike was a web developer for Miniwargaming and that was how he started painting miniatures. Mike shares how that started him down the path of starting his own studio and developing his own style of miniature painting.
Naturally, we end up talking quite a bit about the comic book style of miniature painting which Mike had a big hand in popularizing. He shares how he started to experiment with it and why he fell in love with the clean lines and overall feel of the comic book style as something different and refreshing.

The Captian shares her background in a variety of art forms and the life events that brought her to the miniature painting hobby. While members of her family were involved in gaming, she has never been. Painting miniatures have always been a source of artistic expression tightly bound into family and community.
We discuss her motivation for painting miniatures and sharing her passion for encouraging others in their art and creativity while also adapting to a new art form. She was able to apply the general principles of painting in oils and acrylics from previous experience to miniature painting. We also discuss the roadblocks that experience placed in her path.
Art and free expression are very important to the Captain and that came up time and time again during the interview. Her desire to build a community where others can learn to express themselves through painting miniatures and building stories is obvious throughout.

Jason the owner of Monument Hobbies, and a fantastic miniature painter, and I talk about what got him started into art in general, and what brought him down the path of miniature painting. He shares his perspective on miniature painting and what it takes to improve. If you want to improve, you absolutely have to try. If you fail, that's a learning experience and you can always paint over it or throw it in the paint stripper.
He also talks about the creation of Monument Hobbies, the paint line ProAcryl, all of the Monument brushes, and why he was so inspired to make these products.
Jason also shares the importance of time management and planning to maximize his hobby time and meet deadlines for tournaments and painting competitions. The more you are able to plan blocks of time, the more you are able to anticipate failures and mistakes and make up for them without being rushed.

Kevin and I talk about what got him started in miniature painting, how he began to grow as a painter, and what he did when he discovered groups of other miniature painters on Facebook. Being a big fish in a small pond is something that many of us have gone through, and how Kevin dealt with it is a fantastic example.
Kevin had no knowledge of art or color theory when he started painting, so he had several eureka moments. He does tell us about two, in particular, having to do with wet blending and two-brush blending.
We also talked about the importance of painting a smaller number of entries for the miniature painting competitions he enters. Kevin used to enter every competition he could and produce pieces for them all, but he found as his skill grew, he wasn't able to produce
