It’s Pride month and I’m privileged to be speaking to Emily Carrington-Ball about some of the issues facing the LGBTQ+ community right now. But naturally that’s not all we talk about: Emily is an illustrator, artist and shibari fan within the kink & fetish community. Here she casts a spotlight on a world often misunderstood by those on the outside, and misrepresented by those on the inside. If you’ve ever been curious, consider our conversation a mini education, although she also shares her experience of coming out to her mum as bisexual and how a mental breakdown followed by debilitating illnesses lead her to her creative calling…

As a 14 year-old boy moving from Africa to the UK, Stephen Solademi found himself navigating early adulthood in the middle of a culture shock. His entrepreneurial journey started as a teenager selling things at school but he never imagined it would lead him as an adult to build an award-winning digital marketing agency. having only £100 in his pocket to start a business,  not only has he gone on to build several thriving companies, but he’s now seeking to disrupt the stereotypes, create a positive impact and spread the message that anything is possible.

With a surname like Vandal - or vandal in English, Kat was always destined for mischief but she never expected to end up starting her own brand! After being made redundant from the beauty industry during the pandemic of 2020, she decided the time was right to pursue an idea, a gap in the market for comfortable, stylish, practical clothing that would create the perfect outfit for kids to get messy and help parents with effortless, long lasting, affordable pieces. This episode is so much more than a brand bio however as we discuss the harsh realities that working mums face trying to hold down a career and be a present parent, the struggles of starting a business in an industry you have no experience in and how making time for creativity, play, laughter and silliness is fundamental to a happy life!
