אֶבֶן וָאֶבֶן אֵיפָה וְאֵיפָה תּוֹעֲבַת י״י גַּם שְׁנֵיהֶם:

This morning (5/31/21 at YBT) we continued learning the pasuk we started on Thursday. As we discovered then, this pasuk intersects a number of different subjects, including Chumash, Torah she'baal Peh, aggadata. We decided to focus on the statements of Chazal brought down by the Rambam, keeping the Mishlei pasuk in the back of our mind. Tomorrow we'll either attempt to define "toeivah" in the Chumash or we'll learn the meforshim on our pasuk in Mishlei.

This morning (5/27/21 at YBT) we began learning a pasuk which, on the surface, is unnecessary, since the Chumash says the same thing with greater elaboration. We spent some time getting the facts, which turned into a quasi Rambam Bekius shiur, and then we outlined an approach to the pasuk. Our full analysis will have to wait until next week.

This morning (5/26/21 at YBT) we refined our own understanding of the pasuk we learned yesterday (20:9), then we learned a similar explanation of that pasuk by the Ri Nachmias, and then we learned the Meiri who explains 20:8 and 20:9 together.

This morning (5/25/21 at YBT) we had planned to do the meforshim on 20:8, but since many of them take it to be connected to 20:9, we decided to focus on the latter today and then learn the meforshim on both of them tomorrow. We probably would have gotten further today, but I took a detour to talk about "The Ken Method of Decision-Making," which was a tool that my chavrusa and I developed for applying Mishleic thinking to specific decisions. The plan for tomorrow is to continue our own analysis of 20:9, then examine the meforshim on 20:8 and 20:9.

מְגוֹרַת רָשָׁע הִיא תְבוֹאֶנּוּ וְתַאֲוַת צַדִּיקִים יִתֵּן:

In our Monday Night Mishlei shiur (5/24/21 with Lomdeha, hosted by YBT) we learned a pasuk that sounded both weird (in terms of diction and syntax) and untrue. As always, our questions guided us to approaches, and our approaches led to ideas, and our ideas led to insights. We ended up with an idea that some felt was too basic, but after refining it, we came to a solid chidush (novel insight) with practical ramifications.

This morning (5/24/21 at YBT) we returned to our regularly scheduled Mishlei. (The Super Ultra Hyper Mega Meta Mishlei review was a worthwhile use of time, but I just couldn't bear to spend another day NOT learning fresh Mishlei.) We continued with our new plan of me not preparing ahead of time and we arrived at 2.5 ideas. Tomorrow we'll consult the מפרשים.

This morning (5/21/21 at YBT) we continued our review of every pasuk we've learned in our morning Mishlei shiur since the beginning of the year. Once again, there were pesukim about which we said, "I have no memory of this place." And this time, I don't feel inclined to go back and listen to the old shiurim. Instead, we proceeded with the mentality of, "we'll get out of this review whatever we get out of this review."

To repeat our plan: our goal wasn't necessary to review all of the IDEAS (since we often came up with 2-5 ideas for each pasuk), but rather, to review at least ONE idea for each pasuk. We also didn't bother to get every single detail of the idea, and certainly not all of the textual or interpretive nuances. For this reason, I don't know how valuable this review will be for those who weren't present when we learned the pesukim. If our presentation of the idea seems superficial or incomplete, that's because we were only reviewing enough to job our own memories.

Additionally, because we were covering lots of consecutive pesukim, we had additional insights into the connections and associations between the pesukim which we missed the first time around.

We plan on continuing this tomorrow and next week until we complete our review, at which point we'll return to our regularly scheduled Mishlei programming.

This morning (5/13/21 at YBT) we learned a new pasuk which first struck us as ambiguous on a number of levels. Once we started analyzing it, everything clicked into place, and we emerged with a nice idea. Unfortunately, since this is the last Mishlei shiur we're having before Shavuos, we won't have time to look into the meforshim.
