This week, I handed out to my students (across different grade levels) an exercise where they have to fill in the names of the countries on a map that left the country name blank. One Latino student put Cambodia next to Mexico, an Anglo student wrote Asia in Europe, while a Black American student wrote that Canada was part of the United States. Half the schools will be shutting down by next year in Kansas City Missouri. An entire Rhode Island high school teaching staff is to be let go at the end of this school year. High School seniors writing term papers as though they’re composing text messages (”IDK @ U but Bestie U B?”). Too many students unable to do basic math, English, or science. Yet most of the blame is put on teachers? Is the new policy “No Child Left Behind, but we’ll leave the Teachers on the street”. Tune into tonight’s show, so we can talk about this…
