March 05, 2019Aff Intro. An Introduction to Affirmations and How We Use ThemAffirmations Intro: Thought-Sound-Image-SoundThought is an energy; when we speak a thought, we give it physical existence in the universe as a sound wave; when we visualize a thought we give it light energy; when we speak it a second time we give it physical existence in the universe (as well as the life energy contained in our breath). We can only experience the universe as the result of energies interacting with our personal energy field or body...and after they are converted to electrical signals that can be decoded by our brain. You can bring your thoughts into "reality" through affirmation and visualization.Begin with:"All I need is within me now" Think it; Say, hear, and breathe it; See it; Say, see, hear, and breathe it!Modify the above affirmation based on your needs:All the love I need is within me now; All the joy...; All the prosperity...; All the skill...;Deep within you...is an incorruptible, invulnerable, immortal, and stainless...SoulStainless Souls - Each and every one of us!...more13minPlay
March 03, 2019Ep. 7 Death: Dying and LivingEpisode 7. Death - Dying and Living This transcript is provided as a convenience only - it is not edited or audited - it is a simple voice to text provided by google. Is death bad is death the final separation between two human beings who love each other is death a loss we envisioned a series of talks where we would talk about death however some recent experiences in real time necessitate that we bring up death now a little bit early and prior to a large portion of the philosophy that we want to try to share with you is brought forth so some of the contents of this topic might be a little premature based on the foundation that we have so far built up philosophically but regardless of where we are in the curriculum are in the teachings like still happens losses still happen and it can be hard to lose somebody and very often when a person close to us dies We Begin the question all of the things we've been taught in our life we question the validity of God the Lydia validity of fairness the validity of Salvation forgiveness often we Face the prospect of our own death and we wonder what death will mean to us when that time comes and then many of us me for example will push away the thoughts of the inevitable ending of our presence in the body that we occupy and try to pretend that perhaps one day the Fountain of Youth will be found and we I will be able to avoid death that's not how it works the Tibetan Buddhists teach that death will come for each of us as surely as we draw the next breath into our body death will come and we do not get to choose the moment of our death and thirdly when that moment comes no one and nothing can prevent the occurrence of our death so for all the success and prosperity and power and influence and intellectual influence that we believed we had through life inevitably death will come come it will, that I'm not of our choosing and no matter what happens we won't be able to stop it If you think about the beginning of your life in this body you had absolutely zero input as far as you know on the moment of your conception or where that conception took place you did not give your consent as far as you know for who your parents would be what their demographic would be where they would live in the world even with their marital status was you had absolutely nothing to do with the origin of your life the time of your birth came without your consent and you came into this world kicking and screaming reminds me of a meme that was on Facebook not too long ago two twins were in the womb and they were having a conversation and the one twin said that the other twin do you think there's life after birth and Heather twins said no man there's nothing to be on the womb this is as good as it gets of course from their perspective their death was called birth I don't know what you might think or believe about Infinity for eternity hopefully we can agree that it's a really long time longer than we can imagine and yet we are to believe in many traditions that our existence began without our consent in a time and place not of our choosing and likewise the end of our existence will occur at a time and place not of our choosing and in between those two events on average maybe 80 years of time is given to us and we become convinced and we convinced ourselves that all of the meaning of our existence has to be packed into that time between two events that occur without our consent …...missed audio…. Episode 2 it was Ups episode 2 actually we discussed a higher power what are the basics of a higher power and in that episode we talked about the idea that as soon as we give God form we try to contain God in the idea of a statue or a superhuman or a man with a beard and a staff floating in the clouds soon as we do that we cognitively in our mind take away all of his power and all of his immortality and all of his meaning and that would include taking away all of his love for us but imagine a scenario if you will where God creates in His image what he refers to as his child and then places that child in a place not of their choosing surrounded by people on a culture not of their choosing and he has this child put into the world at a time of cultural and social filth and the child is born and then essentially not only does that child have just 80 years to figure out how to survive in that social filth but that child also has to figure out how to undo the burden of original sin in that short time of 80 years and if the child doesn't in that short time of 80 years between the moment when they were conceived without their consent and the moment where they die without their consent then they are sentenced to Eternity forever and Hell burning unimaginable pain for the rest of forever I want you to think about that for a moment I love and God create a child and his or her image puts them in a place where it's very difficult to survive burdens them with something called Original Sin take some out of that place at a time without their consent and in between that figure it all out or else they have to burn in hell forever not even a dog owner not even a poor dog owner would treat their pet that way and I think that it's unbelievable unimaginable not credible to think that a loving God who created us with love to be a part of his or her creation would put us in such a situation where it is more likely that we be damned been saved So is it any Wonder is it any Wonder that a great many of us fear death we fear death because we recognize based on our Concepts based on our perceptions at least here in the West that death is more likely to result in Eternal suffering than Eternal salvation but just because that's what we recognize or perceive to be true does not make it so and I think I've come to the conclusion myself personally that that whole teaching that whole philosophy of one single 80-year. In between two major events that happened without your consent is all you got in order to figure it out before you're damned for all time most of the atheists that I know we're not always atheist they were at one time believers and if you've ever spoken with an atheist you know that they are quite intelligent and I think that they came to the conclusion just like I did that it is completely illogical to thank the loving God would creative being that it loves put it in a very difficult situation and if it failed in that situation burn it for all time the difference between an atheist and me is where they decided that it's so illogical that the god of their previous understanding cannot exist and then one step further therefore there is no God in my case my view my understanding my comprehension of God was modified quite a bit actually but it's still the same God of my childhood just expanded into Infinity and across all eternity she can't really have a conversation like this without talking about woman what's the purpose what is life about why was I created why am I here at this time in this place and at the beginning of this talk we said that it was a little premature to have this talk because all of that foundational or fundamental philosophy hasn't been taught yet I think one of the first questions to ask is are you immortal or not and if you are a believer in a heaven or a hell then you believe that you are immortal if you are immortal then you have to consider the time of your a little more deeply perhaps and you ever had before and you have to ask yourself did I begin to exist at my conception or at some other time and then you have to compare that to immortality immortality suggest always have been always will be and if you really contemplated I think you'll find that it's tough to say that for me 1966 was the beginning of my existence and yet I'm immortal so I've come to believe that immortality means that I existed prior to 1966 and for those you want to get technical prior to 1965 when I was conceived but as what who where why and again those are many many talks that we are bound to have as stainless Souls continues to grow and publish its philosophy but those are all very valid questions very valid ideas that Merit a great deal of contemplation on your part on all of our parts the best place for all of those types of questions is on a meditation cushion over and over and over again on a meditation cushion so for a moment assume that you are immortal and likewise assume that since you are mortal your beginning did not happen when you were conceived it happened an eternity ago what then is life you might want to consider a bunch of souls hanging around with the ultimate the absolute at some point in eternity maybe similar to you hanging out with some of your friends and you know after a weekend away with your friends or a week away with your friends on vacation you start to look for other things to do and I don't want to say because you were bored and I don't want to say because of the souls who were with the absolute we're bored but entertainment and engagement is engaging and being engaged and being challenged to grow it's beneficial it's worthwhile and I think very similarly to you and your friends hanging out for a week and looking for something to do ultimately you come up with something to do maybe many things to do and perhaps for the purposes of education and entertainment the Soul's got together with the absolute and said hey let's now let's create another dimension where we can pursue all of the things that exist in that dimension and will use all of our skills and talents that we gain through the course of Eternity to capture as many of those things in that Dimension that we can imma just call that to mention the physical Dimension or the material dimension and the absolute agrees with the souls and goes ahead and there's a creation of a physical Dimension or a material Dimension and souls come in and begin using their skills and talents and intellects to gain material and physical objects achievements accomplishments what have you cuz it's fun to challenge and in a single manifestation of a soul into the material or into the physical dimension they may not have gotten everything that they wanted to or they may have made mistakes and they wanted to go back and correct those mistakes were they wanted a different skillset or a different superpower or a different resource if you think about it as a video game and one manifestation were Incarnation would end and they come back and reflect on that Incarnation and then decide this next Incarnation I'm going to pursue something else in a different way and the whole time the ultimate Soul along with the absolute consider the existence in the Physical Realm is a gift from the absolute to his beloved Souls so that they can go and experience all the things of this dimension in a very safe and sound way where they remain no matter what incorruptible invulnerable immortal and stainless in other words life in the physical in the material Dimension is just a game it's just educational entertainment four Immortal Souls under the guy absolute spirit oh that runs counter to virtually every tradition in the West and it may seem perhaps blasphemous or to Mystikal too metaphysical too far out but I think if you would sit in meditation long enough and repetitively you'll begin to recognize the truth about yourself in about creation Send the first few iterations of the game the absolute had to set up some rules to make sure that the game was fair for all who decided to participate and so he implemented some laws such as the law of cause and effect where everything that you do in the game is a Cause that has an effect the balance is out the cause if you cheat have to make it up and if you help someone long in the game you should get a reward and so over the eons the game became one where Souls would come into the world to pursue the things that they desire in the material world and these things only exist in the material Dimension obviously and in order to pursue something in the material Dimension you have to have a form you have to have a body and in order to participate in the material and the physical you have to be able to sense what's happening have to go to see hear feel smell taste Sentra essentially the soul has to put on a suit of clothes so that it can experience the physical that suit of clothes is known as a body the body that you have now it allows you to participate in and play the game and again the Soul's purpose is to acquire the desires that it can only acquire in the material and physical world things such as love Saks objects well and a variety of experiences and quite naturally because the game is being played by many people simultaneously there are interactions between people some of those interactions are mutually beneficial and some of them are not mutually beneficial all of them contribute to the cause and effect so it's sad that a soul will continue to come back into the material and physical Dimension until all of its desires have been met and once all of its desires are met it won't come back anymore it won't want to come back anymore the problem with that is that throughout all of the lifetimes that it was pursuing whatever these desires were it was generating a list of causes and effects and all of those may not be balanced yet so the soul who has achieved all of its desires we'll have to Incarnate into another body as many times as it takes to balance out The Ledger or the balance sheet of causes and effects then at that point in time when all the desires have been met and The cause-and-effect Ledger has been balanced the soul no longer has to come back and take on a body and play the game has a choice to come back but it's not required to come back and at that point it'll be right back where it started hanging out with a bunch of other Souls with the absolute So as far as this particular tacos which is this is about death I think what you'll find through meditation and continued contemplation on Topix such as what is life and what is death that death is simply nothing more then the Soul which is Incorruptible invulnerable Immortal and stainless leaving the suit of clothes or the body that it occupied during the Incarnation but it started in order to achieve something working like something where to workout its balance sheet of causes and effects and once that Soul leaves the body it returns to a resting place we're can evaluate the most recent experience inside the game along with all the other instances of the game that is played to date and it can decide what it wants to do next it may decide it's time to start working out cause and effect and maybe it'll go to the absolute and say hey I really want to work out some of my debts here what can I do in order to work out some of these debts and the absolute might say something like well you know these two people over here they're going to play their next instance of the game as a couple and they've had some experiences where in previous times where they play the game they were quite unfair to an individual who had learning disabilities they bully this person and so they've agreed to work out some of their cause and effect Ledger by being the parent of a person with learning disabilities so I'm looking for a soul who wants to work out some issues by going back into the game with learning disabilities and then the Soul might say why how much how much are my ledger can I clean up if I go back in with them as their child with a learning disability and the absolute will give them a value and then at that point the three of them Audrey and decide to go back in and the couple will go in at one point and then 18 to 35 years later in Earth time so the object of our conversation will go back in as as their child with learning disabilities and then the three of them in that instance of the game of that lifetime or that Incarnation however you want to refer to it we'll work out a significant part of their balance sheet and then at the end of that instance the end of that lifetime I'll be on vacation again in between the material world and the absolute and we'll evaluate what they want to do the next time if there has to be one or not and if they're does what they what they're going to do so the suffering of that we witness or experience is serving a very very important part purpose for that individual in likely for other individuals around him or her suffering is never in vain suffering is either a volunteer volunteer volunteering assignment to help yourself and your Ledger or somebody else and their Ledger of cause and effects or it is the absolute calling out to you and making an invitation to you through your reaction to that suffering to join him or her and some important cause that will have some important effect on your existence in all eternity God doesn't deal with our prayers within a single lifetime God provides us with that which we need in eternity what is in the best interest of this Soul right now relative to their place in eternity and what they're trying to do in eternity regardless of how you think about this talk today as has been mentioned another talks don't take our word for anyting we're not preaching a Dogma you don't have to believe anything to be a part of stainless Souls we challenge you through meditation to find your own truth about life about death about living about dying the only thing that we ask you to consider believing to be true is that which we are founded on which is no matter what you've done or failed to do no matter how badly you feel about yourself or anyone else no matter what you said about God or yourself or anyone else the truth remains you are an incorruptible invulnerable Immortal and stainless soul and so is everyone of us God bless you all ...more35minPlay
March 01, 2019Ep. 6 What is Meditation, Where Did it Come From, and Why Do I Need it?Episode 6What is meditation, where did it come from, and why do I need it? This transcription is an unaudited and unedited product of Googles voice to text tool nd is provided for convenince onlyPeople used to ask Swami kriyananda Swami do I need a guru and kriyananda would say of course you don't need a guru but if you want to find God you need a guru and today I want to talk about meditation and its place in recovery and its place in living a fool meaningful life addicts and people who are co-dependent with addicts asked me do I really need a program do I really need 12 steps and like kriyananda I tell them course you don't need a program or 12 steps but if you want to recover you need a program what are the 12 steps and in episode 5 we talked about at a high level with those 12 steps are and the 11th step we talked about was the prayer and meditation step and sometimes people will say well is there a easier way or a program that doesn't take 12 steps and I tell them well you can recover in one step if you do the 11th step and you do it well you can recover because through prayer and meditation and conscious contact with God his will for your life and the courage that you need in order to carry out his will for your life is revealed to you and from there you can discover whatever other steps are necessary for you to recover so meditation is Paramount to the recovery from addiction co-dependency PTSD trauma suicidal ideation and homelessness the problem with it is that people who suffer from those five afflictions have a very difficult time sitting still and being quiet without for some having their mind run all over the place and they become even more discouraged and others that go in a straight into a PTSD flashback or into a suicide attempt because what they're thinking we're experiencing is horrible so we have to be careful when we enter recovery from these five afflictions and we begin to consider the idea that we should meditate because we don't want to do harm to ourselves so I just put that out of the caution so that if you do at some point here in the near future engage in the 90-day recovery program and begin your meditation practice with a mindfulness practice that you're aware if things go awry that's happened before and it's normal but there are some precautions that you can take in order to avoid putting yourself in danger in one of those is just to have another person nearby who can be a tether to your current perception of reality so that's the preamble to today's talk and I will get into the meat why meditation why do I need to meditate in order to get well in order to feel better and there is a ton of research and a ton of studies done on this topic and in New England 2030 years ago a new therapy called mbsr or mindfulness-based stress reduction was invented and that therapy was specifically to obviously reduce stress but the stress from anxiety and depression associated with just normal living and mindfulness meditation is how I started in 2014 on the meditative path which became a spiritual path which ultimately, dated in the founding of the realization of stainless Souls the Hindu scripture is called the bog of agita and it's a story about a battle that a person named Argentina has to do he has to fight the material world with his spiritual Army and he doesn't want to because although his material attachments prevent him from merging back in with the absolute they haven't always served him badly they've had good times together fortunately he has an advisor named Krishna who just happens to be the absolute and although Argentina has the freedom the free will to choose the material side what are the spiritual side Krishna persuades him into the truth that regardless you have to choose between the two and it's going to be a fight because of the spiritual side of you want you to be spiritual and the material side of you I want you to enjoy all of the gifts of the material and physical universe so Krishna is Argentina's Chariot driver and they drive out to the middle of the battlefield between the material Army in the spiritual Army and most of the rest of the story are the two of them having a conversation about the choice the freedom to choose and how one properly makes the correct choice and ultimately Krishna advises Arjuna the yogi that it's through meditation and through meditation by disconnecting yourself from the material from the physical from your attachments and desires to the material and the physical you can come to no the spiritual come to know the truth about yourself spiritually come to know the truth about God spiritually and the reason that meditation works is because the physical and material world are downplayed the volume is turned down the brightness is turned down and in the Silence of your mind you allow your innermost self to emerge and become more a part of your awareness in the Old Testament Psalm 46 the Samus rights be still and know I am God and those two things go together in order to know God you must be still because God's communication comes in a form or in a way that is not up the physical or material world knowing God does not come through the five senses of sight hearing smell taste and tactile touch knowing god is something that happens deep within and in order to get deep within you have to meditate likewise Jesus tells his disciples that when they pray they should go into the closet shut the door pray in secret and the father who hears in secret will reward you for those of us who study metaphysics know that means meditate focusing on a place within yourself where are the five senses in the interpretation of the five senses in the form of thoughts is not the way you communicate in other words praying secret May mean you don't use words and likewise the answer in the secret doesn't come in words it Wells up from that place that you can touch in meditation So when we roll out the 90-day program of recovery here in the next few days one of the Lynch pins to the program is daily meditation early on in the program it will be mindfulness meditation and will teach you how to do that and it will be for short durations 5 minutes at a time three or four times a day and over the course of 90 days you will learn how to meditate for longer periods longer durations and how to delve deeper into the meditative experience so you're going to learn how to meditate and through meditation I personally believe that you will recover how long that recovery may take varies but if you just think about if you know any people who are regularly practicing meditation they're not drunks they're not manic depressant they aren't overly anxious and that's because meditation changes physically physiologically the central nervous system in the human body it creates new pathways for the chemicals of the central nervous system to flow and it overall improves the health of the Mind Body Soul konstrukt So what are we to do what are we supposed to do there's people who are ordinary who are normal you weren't Afflicted with addiction co-dependency suicidal ideation PTSD or homelessness and they can't quiet the mind what are we supposed to do you're telling me hey if you want to recover you got to meditate there's no two ways around it but then you're telling me when I sit down to meditate I'm either going to have a PTSD flashback I'm going to become so depressed and discouraged I'm going to want to blow my brains out or I'm not going to be able to stop my thoughts from running through my head all the things that I've done that I regret all the things that I need to do on my to do list later that meditation is really an overwhelming challenge for me so what am I supposed to do and the answer to that question is yes it's true there is no way around it you have to learn how to meditate but you don't have to become a sage in the first week of meditation in fact all you really need to do is begin a meditation practice by beginning a meditation practice you take the most important stuff and the second most important step is don't quit in between those two steps everything that you need to happen happens but it's not easy but it's worth it be still and know I am God go into the closet shut the door pray in secret and the father who sees in secret will answer and reward you shortly will be publishing a 5-day mindfulness introduction that will be five short talks on how to begin a mindfulness practice and in that you'll learn the following set still and begin by just watching your thoughts don't be attached to your thoughts don't be attached to your idea of who the thinker of thoughts is just sit still and watch don't judge yourself because you're thinking don't judge the thoughts because they're bad or evil or sinful just sit back and watch the mechanism of your physical being thank separate yourself from the thoughts separate yourself from The Thinker and watch unfortunately too many people begin to practice and they believe that because they can't quiet their mind that they're doing it wrong so many people say to me I'm never going to be able to meditate because my mind just doesn't shut up I can't sit still that's just the way I am and all of those things are patently false you can but it takes practice when you first get up to walk when you were a child you didn't walk on the first try he fell down a lot you kept getting up finally learned how to walk you learn how to talk you learn how to count learn how to write you learn how to read they took a long. Of time likewise with meditation the rewards come with the practice the practice is the goal so don't worry about being able to be still don't worry about being able to be quiet just set aside 5 minutes at a time sit down with the idea that I'm going to sit here and watch what my mind does for 5 minutes I'm not going to judge what it does I'm not going to judge myself I'm not going to critique anything that happens I'm just going to spend 5 minutes watching what it does that's the beginning that's how we start sit down with the idea for five minutes I'm just going to watch what happens you're not trying to go anywhere you're not trying to do anything you're not trying to become a sage you just want to watch what your mind does that's all there is to it so I don't expect any of you to be able to sit down be still and know that I am God it happens from time to time but for the vast majority of us what happens is the Mind goes where the Mind goes too often we want to follow it down the drain of dirty thoughts or we come frustrated because it's not doing what we want it to or we sit there and we let the other side of her mind tell us how stupid it is that were sitting there and all of those objections all of those things that are happening is what was happening to Argentina on that Battlefield the material Army is not going to let you initially at least be still and know God because the Army knows the coupled with God you will overcome everything that it has to offer and you will form an allegiance that is true to who you really are so that are me the material physical Army is going to fight you tooth and now it's going to throw up every conceivable barrier between you and knowing god including a little voice that says see you can't sit still it's not who you are you're not that kind of person this has to be for somebody else again that's patently false it is not true you can choose though God gives you that free will you can choose to go along with the material Army for as long as you want this lifetime and million more but at some point you're going to be compelled to fight and that fights going to happen in meditation and ultimately the victory is going to be one but the spiritual side I implore you to begin the fight now not only will it accelerate you're recovering from the afflictions of addiction co-dependency PTSD suicidal ideation and homelessness but it will free your being from the desires and the attachments of the material universe and with that freedom the new choices that you will have are so abundant so that you will exist in pure Bliss pure joy and pure contentment but again it's going to be hard and for those of you that begin to slip into the chaotic mind and following along with where it's leading you when you're trying to meditate and that mine begins to remind you of how pathetic how horrendous how horrible of a person you are and the God is never going to visit you in meditation no matter how many times you go into it not know how I'm not no matter how many lifetimes you spend with it you're so pathetic you're never going to make it I want you to remember this a part of you is incorruptible invulnerable immortal and stainless stainless soles each and every one of us it's true whether you believe it or not enjoying the battle begin looking at what happened in your mind right now on purpose and you will become free from that which threatened your physical existence and you will find so much to look forward to in this existence in any other existed thank you for listening God bless you all ...more24minPlay
February 28, 2019Ep 5. What Do We Mean by Recovery and What are These 12 Steps?Transcription is not edited or audited. It is the output of Google Voice to Text technology and is provided for convenience.Episode 5: Recovery and 12 stepsSo it's some point we're going to talk about recovery and we're going to talk about recovery in a great amount of detail because the reason that we exist here at the realization of stainless Souls is to promote and teach and bring about recovery in the minds and souls and hearts and bodies of our members it's a somewhat unfortunate reality that the word recovery automatically is associated with addiction or codependency or a 12-step program and as soon as individuals here at their turned off by anyting associated with the word recovery and I want to help alleviate any concerns with the word recovery in any of our members Minds with this message today if you have surgery you go to recovery after surgery when you are ill you recover from that illness obviously if you're addicted or codependent you need to recover from those afflictions but it's also true if you are depressed hopeless helpless suicidal if you have trauma PTSD as well as addiction and codependents that the path to restoring an ordinary life for recovering an ordinary life is called recovery and it is a universal word that we can use in order to get everybody on the same page when we talk about what we're doing here at stainless Souls so all of us addicted codependent suicidal traumatized and homeless are suffering from afflictions pinned down by hopelessness and helplessness that require recovery and over the course of the next few days we will introduce a 90-day program a recovery for those who are suffering with any of those 5 afflictions but of course the program can be used for anyone anyone who is going through a. Of difficulty in their life would benefit from a program of recovery it's a recovery of what you may consider a normal or ordinary life from something that might be considered extraordinary or abnormal over the course of our development here at stainless Souls we will offer at least for 90-day programs to our members the first one is recovery from the Insidious afflictions of addiction co-dependency PTSD suicidal ideation and homelessness following that 90-day program graduates will be invited to another 90 day program which will be restoration where that 90 days will focus on restoring all of the things lost during the. Of affliction and then the third 90 days we will call realization and in that 90-day program we will help members realize with much more and understanding exactly who and what they are and who and what their place is in the universe alongside of God and then the fourth program the force 90 day program will be actualization where we take a person who was broken broken down and out through a 90-day recovery program then a 90-day restoration program then a 90-day realization program and then finally a 90-day actualization program where they learn how to live up to the full potential of their being in this incarnation in this lifetime second of outlines the the purpose for our existence here at stainless Souls as a church in a Ministry we start by Saving Lives and over the course of a year we move to take that saved life and really helped make it meaningful as meaningful as it would have been or should have been had they not become afflicted but we like to think that even beyond that because what we teach is going to help people really excel in life so now to the idea of recovery it's a universal word all of us who suffer in any way really but in particular Faraz seduction codependency PTSD suicidal ideation and homelessness we can easily model the 12-step programs of a island on n a as a basic recipe or prescription for recovery from anything the principles in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous are Universal we can all benefit from what is written and taught and experienced in AA I was sitting in a meeting one time some of you might find this funny and I said out loud I wish I regret it now but I said out loud dumb you know the world would be a better place if everybody did the 12 steps and one of the older gentleman at that meeting looked at me and said we think the world would be a better place if you did those 12 steps was was funny at the time but if you think about the outline of the 12 steps which I'm going to do here in a moment you can see why they work for alcoholism and addiction and codependency but hopefully you'll see also why they work with grief Despair and suicidal ideation why they would work with anxiety and fear and anger and resentment of PTSD and why they might work with helplessness and hopelessness associated with all these afflictions but most especially those who are homeless so the the program of recovery outlined in the big book starts really with surrender and it's just a surrendering that I have this Affliction I've tried for a very long time to take care of it myself and I've not been able to I don't know what else to do so I Surrender and you can see how that would work with trauma survivors suicidal ideation people homeless people they've work as hard as they can potentially at resolving their difficulty but despite everything that they've done they have not been able to resolve it and at some point the reasonable rational thing to do is to surrender and say I can't do it and once you make that step if you do it authentically you have an opportunity to be exposed to all sorts of new ideas around how to resolve the issue because you're essentially giving responsibility for fixing it away because you can't do it I Surrender I can't do it that doesn't mean that I give up it just means I can't do it either by myself or with help from another person I still can't do it I need something potentially extraordinary to intervene on my behalf and the thing about a sick or troubled mind or a secret troubled heart or a secret troubled soul however you want to consider a mental or emotional affliction the troubled mind cannot untroubled itself it's troubled the suffering mind cannot unsuffer itself what has to happen if something higher then the troubled mind has to step in or be invoked in order to resolve the difficulty and that's where the idea of a higher power comes in now the higher power ultimately you'll find I think is the absolute power but in the beginning of recovery you don't have to make leaps towards some higher power that is absolute the initiator of the Big Bang or the father of the man who hangs on a cross or the advisor of Argentina in the middle of a battlefield between the material world in the spiritual world or burning bush you just have to come to believe once you surrender that you need a higher power a power higher than yourself to help resolve your difficulty then once you go there the next step is pretty simple you simply ask that higher power to remove your difficulty you don't need a graduate degree in theology to understand this higher power you certainly don't need to name this higher power or try to describe this higher power or make amends with this higher power for all the things that you've done against his or her rules or make amends because of all the things that he or she has done that has ruined your life or others lives you simply have to come to a point where I Surrender I can't do it myself I need a higher power higher than me and then ask that higher power whatever it is as long as it's higher to resolve your difficulty that's it and then the wheels are in motion both within you and within the universe that you have finally admitted you can't do it yourself there has to be something higher and you've humbled yourself if you will to ask that higher power for help the wheels are in motion in the universe that the wheels are in motion within your own mind so then why we're waiting for the universe and you to catch up with each other in the Eternal now there's a few things you can do to start fixing the mess you've probably made of your life and the mess is probably mostly within yourself you've completely lost track of who and what you are who and what you stand for you may be disgusted discouraged Sick by what you are or what you've become or you may not realize what you are or what you have become for me with PTSD and I don't know if I ever really realized what it was that was my problem I mean I thought I was normal even though my behavior was totally abnormal so there are some things that you know we should always do if we do something wrong two other people we should admit it at least to ourselves so after we surrender acknowledge that we need a higher power ask that higher power for help we start taking a moral inventory of ourselves and that moral inventory is just a list essentially of all the things that we may have done or not done when we were supposed to that bother us or bother other people and generally that list comes down to fear anger and resentment and all of the battles that you're fighting inside of yourself are usually a result of the regrets you have about your behavior and the results of those specific behaviors so you just simply make an inventory of all the things that really bug you about yourself that you've done both to yourself and done outside of yourself to the rest of the world and over the course of a couple days or a week however long you want to invest in this you start to summarize that list down to know what's really the one two three or four things that really bother me about me and my behavior in the past and then hopefully you can find someone that you trust mother father brother sister husband wife preacher priest counselor sponsor anyone will do I'm not so sure that your pet will do but the idea here is you have to drain all of this dirty murky water from your body from your mind from your heart from your soul and the mind is a Curious Thing if you just kind of talk to yourself through all these things and and pretend that you're talking to another person it knows and it doesn't give you any credit for having confessed the things that bother you most so for your own benefit the fifth thing that we do is talk to another person about the things that bother us the most and what you'll find is that that person feels the same way about themselves maybe not to the same degree that you do maybe not to the same intensity that you feel about yourself but you'll find in most cases human beings share similar self-analysis and the things that bother you about yourself to some degree or another bother others about themselves and at the end of that conversation when you get a hug from this person and they assure you that told them may be embarrassing and humiliating for you they still love you anyway in fact they may embrace you more than they did prior to this because now your Shield that has been protecting you the real you all these years through this relationship and many others has been taken down has been put away and the real you is now shining through then the next thing to do is pretty simple it's you step outside of this meeting and you think of all the things that you just admitted to another person anger fear resentment and you go back to that same higher power who you might know a little better by now and you just believe that that higher power could take away these difficulties the shortcomings in your personality or in your character and then almost immediately you asked that higher power to take their shortcomings away again the higher Powers just a little bit higher than your conscious mind you don't have to know it him her it you just have to believe that there is some power in this universe higher than you and then you offer these shortcomings up and ask them to be removed almost instantly most people feel immediate relief and then from here there's only really two simple steps 1 is make a list of everybody that you may have heard or harmed or that you think that you may have hurt or harmed including yourself and I want you to make that list make a commitment to yourself that you're going to make amends or make it up to all of those people and this stuff isn't really for them some of them might try to take a little meat off the bone it's for you cuz you're walking around with guilt you're walking around with feelings of not good enough you walk around with feelings of regret and these aren't simple little child play feelings that you have these are feelings that are taking you to the brink of life which is right across the threshold from death these are the feelings that have made you drink or be addicted made you think you could control the entire universe and all the people in it made you consider ending your life made you hopeless and helpless over the course of a long. Of time it's like a rose in it just wears you down so you make the list and then over the course of the rest of your life when you meet the people on it you make a man to make it up to whatever you did beginning with yourself make amends with yourself first that's really the hard part of the whole recovery program in in a 12-step system those first nine steps once done once you surrendered you come to believe that there is a higher power than you I said higher power to take away your difficulty completed your moral inventory discuss your moral inventory with another human being come to believe that the same higher power could remove the shortcomings from that inventory humbly asked that higher power to remove your shortcomings made a list of people he might have harmed and then gone off and made amends with them over the course of the rest of your life the next step is just on a daily basis repeat everything you just completed if you make a mistake promptly admit it don't get yourself into a situation where regrets linger where disappointments linger where they build up over time to the point where you're drunk again or high again or have the gun in your mouth again we're out on the street again if you daily take an inventory I make amends for whatever mistakes you think you might have made during the day then every single day you're clean the 11th step is pray and meditate and we'll come back to that one and another broadcast but prayer and meditation help you connect with that higher power that you brought into your life in the 2nd 3rd 6th and 7th steps in this 11th step year sitting with that higher power that you still may not know who are water where it is and you're praying making intercessions perhaps and you are sitting quietly receiving guidance from that higher power not in words but you are receiving it and then finally it's be a service to others in fact help people who are as helpless as you were when you started this whole thing so again if you have where are suffering from addiction co-dependency PTSD suicidal ideation and the helpless and hopelessness of homelessness recovery is the same for all of us and I can say that because I have personally suffered with all five of these afflictions to some degree or another and the recipe for recovery is always relatively the same I can't do it by myself I need help from a higher power I need to take a look at myself the things that I like and dislike I need to talk about it with another person again I need to ask for help and getting rid of the shortcomings of my character and I need to go make amends with people who I've upset again for my benefit because I feel guilty not for theirs take a look at ourselves daily makeup for our mistakes pray and meditate and be of a service to other people the simple prescription and it works for any affliction oh I'm not about to say that people with PTSD and no addiction or no to codependency should go to a 12-step meeting that's not what this podcast is about but what I am saying is you don't have to look too far or too hard for how to feel better about yourself about your life about this universe and your place in it because there are Miracles happening every single day and you can be the next one but you got to admit that you want to be the next one and then you got to be willing to do whatever it takes to become that next one that's kind of an outline of recovery at a very high level and it will be followed up like I said a 90-day program of recovery will be followed up with a 90-day program of restoration and I need a program of realization and a 90-day program of actualization and believe me the 90-day program of recovery is not going to be even 10% except for those addicted at work codependent even 10% focused on 12 steps but I wanted to get this out the 12 Steps work for everything because the 12 steps are based and promoting a spiritual experience in those who undertake those 12 steps and that spiritual experience brings into your life into your Consciousness into your mind body heart and soul a power higher than yourself and you coupled with that power are capable of absolutely anything and everything you may not believe me now but you will in a year I hope that this make sense to you if you have any questions comments complaints please enter those in an email email address is Hope at stainless Souls. February 15, 2019Ep. 2 The Basics of a Higher PowerEp. 2 The Basics of a Higher PowerAll of us will have to confront our idea of God or a Higher Power at somepoint. For those of us afflicted we will likely do so with anger, resentment, fear, or disbelief. The requirements to getting well (as far as we are concerned here at tRoSS) are meditation and open-mindedness. Openness leads to oneness.Tao te Ching, by Lao TzuFirst Verse:The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao.The name that can be named is not the eternal name. The Tao is both named and nameless. As nameless it is the origin of all things;as named it is the Mother of 10,000 things.Ever desireless, one can see the mystery;Ever desiring, one sees only the manifestations.and the mystery itself is the doorway to all understanding.-Dyer, Wayne.
