What drives you in life? The desire to win? Or, the fear of losing?! In this episode we explore if it is okay to want to win in life, or if it's selfish and sinful to have the desire to win. We also talk about the benefit to having a desire to win as well as how to develop that desire if it's something you're lacking.
In this episode, I talk about the importance of getting in your reps! This is an important concept physically, but also just as important spiritually, emotionally, intellectually, and relationally. Be sure to get in the practice and build the "muscle memory" required to perform and show up the way you want to when it matters most.
In this episode I take you through some points to consider before you decide to carry a concealed weapon. Then, if you decide you're willing to take on the responsibility, some additional things to consider once you've made that decision. This isn't legal advice in any way, but just some points to think about that have been helpful for me as I evaluated that decision. We'll talk about other things you should be doing in addition to preparing to carry a weapon, like self defense training, medical or first aid training, etc. If you're on the fence about whether or not to carry a concealed weapon, this episode is for you!
In this episode, I interview Jake Weidmann about pursuing our passions, and how he has developed his artwork into a full time careeer. Jake Weidmann is a professional artist and certified as one of nine Master Penman in the world. Jake was certified through IAMPETH (International Association of Master Penman, Engrossers and Teachers of Handwriting) in July 2011. He holds the title as the youngest Master Penman by three decades and the youngest to ever attain the title. A few of Jake's peers (other Masters) have done work for the White House, Queen Elizabeth and even the Pope. His journey into calligraphy has been the "special sauce" for everything he now creates, incorporating the traditional calligraphic flourishing into his fine art. Jake is self-taught in each of his disciplines (calligraphy, painting, drawing, woodworking, and engraving). While he typically works with private clients, Jake has worked with Apple, Inc., Crossway Books, and Biola University and has spoken from countless stages including Tedx and Q and was featured on PBS Television. In our interview we discuss how passion must be accompanied by diligent pursuit in the mundane along with our the pursuit of excellence in our chosen craft. We also discuss faith and how that has played such a big role for both of us as we pursue our passions. In this episode, I discuss the importance of using your talents to adding value to the world around you! It's easy to overlook the value we can bring just by showing up and using the talent we have. I give a brief overview of the Parable of the Talents in the book of Matthew, and then extrapolate on that in how we are supposed to grow our talents and create a return on the investment God has given us. I discuss some challenges and risks we can face in using our talents and how to overcome them. Join me as we seek to become the men God created us to be in how we show up and add value!
In our day and age, we are living in a time of gender misidentification, or what I would refer to as sex misidentification. Society around us is confusing masculine and feminine roles, sexes, and insisting that you can determine your own “gender.” We’re confused on our roles in marriage and society, and what should even be included in those roles. In this episode we discuss what is a man, both physiologically and the role we are meant to fulfill, and 5 key aspects of biblical manhood.
In this episode we talk about July 4th and our Independence we declared from Britain, and how our founding fathers didn't remain complacent in the dangers they faced. We then get into complacency in our own lives, what it is, how we slip into becoming complacent and then the six specific things we can do to prevent, avoid, or get out of complacency in our lives.
In this episode we discuss the balance of faith and preparation. Too often we see these things as diametrically opposed, and that it's either one or the other. But in this show we look deeper at a few instances when a life of preparation has actually complemented the opportunities to step out in faith. Join me in this episode as we look for ways to prepare ourselves for future opportunities to see God move through our readiness to step forward in faith!
In this episode we discuss my recent experience at youth camp and the reciprocal value of working with teenagers. I share some lessons I learned and took away from the camp experience. And, the main content is focusing on the difference between simply gaining knowledge (e.g. learning), and applying knowledge (or living). Tune in to this episode as I give some helpful points to ensure that you're not just gaining knowledge for knowledge sake, but that you're truly applying the knowledge you've gained in meaningful and impactful ways in your life, both for yourself and for those you serve!
