The Mixtape Podcast - Creating Mix Tapes and Playlists with your favourite musicians!

In this powerful and revealing episode of The Mixtape, we sit down with Rick McMurray, drummer of iconic alternative rock band Ash, to talk music, resilience, and the road ahead.

Fresh off the band’s explosive Australian tour, Rick dives into the making of their latest album, Race The Night, a bold and energetic return to form that’s earning rave reviews. We also explore his gritty, genre-blending side project Burned As Witches, and what it’s like stepping outside the Ash sound to experiment with something new.

In a raw and honest moment, Rick opens up about his struggles with alcohol addiction, sharing his journey toward sobriety and how it’s impacted his life, creativity, and relationships—both on and off the stage.

As tradition on The Mixtape, we wrap things up with a musical time capsule: Rick builds his imaginary 6-track mixtape, walking us through the songs that influenced his drumming, shaped his worldview, and carried him through the highs and lows of his career.

🎧 Honest, electric, and deeply human—this is one episode you won’t want to miss.
