The Mixtape Podcast - Creating Mix Tapes and Playlists with your favourite musicians!

In this immersive episode of The Mixtape, we sit down with the enigmatic Steve Kilbey, frontman of the legendary Australian band The Church, for a wide-ranging conversation that drifts through dreamlike soundscapes, artistic evolution, and the future of music.

Kilbey unpacks the themes and sonic textures of The Hypnogogue, the band’s ambitious and cinematic concept album that blurs the lines between dystopia, romance, and creativity. We delve into his thoughts on AI in music, the enduring magic of vinyl records, and how he continues to find inspiration in a world that’s constantly shifting.

As part of our signature mixtape segment, Steve curates a playlist of personal influences — a handpicked selection of tracks that shaped his musical identity and guided his songwriting journey. Expect a hypnotic blend of psychedelia, glam, post-punk, and ambient gems, all delivered with Kilbey’s poetic insight and dry wit.

This episode is a must-listen for fans of The Church, lovers of analog mysticism, and anyone curious about where creativity meets technology in the mind of a true musical visionary.
