Thinking the more action you take the more results you will get is the biggest waste of your time and energy.

This may work when you start taking action.... But over time it creates something called burnout because you reach a point where you can't physically do any more.

Think about it....  If more action = more results, wouldn't everyone who took massive action create more results?

Do you know people who take a TON of action, yet don't produce what they want?

If we were to look at this idea when it comes to your health... If you wanted to get healthier, would you work out 6 hours a day, 7 days a week?

After the first few days that wouldn't be called progress, as much as it's would be called injury.

Leadership is changing, and I don't want you to be left behind.

What do I mean?

If you were to think about what leadership meant to you as you were growing up, what comes up for you?

For me its...

• Giving directions/orders
• Being at the top of the chain of command
• Making your team sacrifice themselves for the goal/team
• Using power and position to control
• Leading others to actions that only benefits work, the company, or the leader

If you haven't noticed, some of those things (most of them from what I've experienced) no longer work.

And if you're pointing to the "outside world" or the "new generation" as the cause, you're missing a great opportunity to develop the skills that will have you be an even more effective leader because honestly, most leaders aren't willing to develop the new skills it takes.

"I'm not a suspect!"

Have you ever heard that, or something similar when your family is frustrated because you're trying to lead at home with skills you developed at work or in your business?

That's because those skills don't transfer from one place to another!

What most of us do in the beginning, is we develop skills at work, and automatically transfer them to home without even knowing it.

Then we wonder why they aren't working, why we feel disconnected at home, and we really have no other alternative to try.

So we keep "forcing it" and that just creates even more disconnection.

That's why thinking the same skills that work with leading professionally will help at home, is the worst way to lead your family while creating the connection and memories you truly want to create.

Why is leadership so hard?

"I would have gotten the job if it wasn't for the politics."

Even if you haven't said that out loud, you may have thought that at some point.

I was there too, and looking back on it now I can tell that was all ego.

Here's why it wasn't helpful.

Thinking you need to play politics before you can be a leader is the worst way to influence people who already see you as one.

I can see why we would think this though.

Often times politics are used when it comes to selection of leadership titles and it can really piss people off.

But if we focus on that, how does that really benefit us or others?

I can't actually think of one way that would help.

And if we keep thinking that, what kind of impact will we really be making?

Not as much as we could.

What if there was another way?

A way to actually use that as a stepping stone to actually get the job and develop our leadership at the same time???
