Matt and Derek introduce the Redeemer Representative archetype a.k.a. the Political Saviour, an original framing they devised to characterize some leaders.
They define it as "a gnostic figurehead that promises to guide adherents towards an aspirational future provided they comply with challenging and suspect tenants, who seeks a covenant with you." They can be characterized as seeking and enjoying power, use of aspirational claims, possessing fundamentally gnostic elements, use of grandiose rhetoric, high quality performativity, proclivity for propaganda, requests that faith be placed in them, they are a con artist that never delivers, and they are born typically out of a cultural or social crisis that they capitalize on, and they characterize it as an existential crisis.
Examples are provided in the episode, as well as their more honest and wise counterparts, and they discuss why we are susceptible to their lies as humans.
