TW: Childhood Trauma/ Domestic Violence
In the United States, 34.8 million children—nearly half of American children—are exposed to adverse childhood experiences (ACES).
These traumatic events include things like: physical/ emotional abuse, neglect, substance abuse in the home, parental dynamics (domestic violence/ divorce), sexual abuse, mental illness in the home and more.
According to studies, childhood traumas have a long-term impact. They can rearrange the brain, lower self-esteem, complicate relationships, and reside in the body, sometimes prompting medical and somatic concerns.
So what happens when those children grow up and raise children of their own? Where does that trauma go? How do they navigate it?
In this week’s episode Christina shares her own experience with childhood traumas, how it has informed her parenting and gets vulnerable about the realities of being triggered AND healed through her motherhood experience.
If you are somebody you know has been affected by childhood trauma or are experiencing trauma as a parent, there are resources to help.
