Just so happens that Steve is a data transport expert and Kelly is a licensed literary critic, so what better team to take on this deliciously messed up story of the very near future? Sit down, buckle up, and brace yourself for the greatest work of literary analysis in all Podcastistan.

Steve's permanent running injuries prompt a philosophical discussion about the modern desire to suffer in the name of fun. The talk soon devolves into travel stories.

New co-host Steve Jones (former member of legacy punk band the Sex Pistols, according to the Internet!) and old co-host Kelly Daniels talk sports at the pub. Gridiron, futball, baseball...even cricket! Sports, huh, good God, what are they good for?

Epiphanies galore in this simonistic discussion of Joyce's sad and frustrating story of paralysis. Also, negative stereotypes of drunken Irishmen and their downtrodden women.

The Pubsters take on the final story of Denis Johnson's glorious collection, Jesus' Son. Phoebe can't bring herself over the F*Head's side of things in spite of the poor guy's amazing descriptions of the permanently disabled.

The Pubsters continue the trend of dead white guys by discussing "Indian Camp," by Ernest Hemingway. Phoebe brings up a scandalous interpretation. Kelly is skeptical, but no, seriously, Phoebe heard it in class or read it in an article something. It's a hell of a thing.

Phoebe feels kindly toward Mrs. Hopewell in Flannery O'Connor's classic short story, "Good Country People," flabbergasting Kelly, who finds every last character in the story dim and self-deluded, except Manley Pointer, who is a vicious psychopath but plenty clever.

Phoebe chose one of JD Salinger's most famous stories, "A Perfect Day for Bananafish," based in part on some sort of anime adaptation that Kelly is too old to understand. But he gladly rereads this old favorite (the Salinger story, not the anime), and decides it holds up just fine. Here's the big question though: what's up with Seymore and that little girl? Is he, like, able to connect with children because he's the only honest adult left, or is he a bit of a pedo? That and other crucial questions discussed.

Kelly choses the pod's first poem, featuring time and space travel, existential dread, a market in Rome, and a mole-colored hill in upstate New York. Phoebe approves.
