Climate issues are heating up and people are looking for ways to reduce their footprint and reduce dependence on natural gas. A team from Red Deer Polytechnic have been awarded the ' ASET Capstone Project of the Year Award' for their innovation in solar panel technology. 

We begin with our weekly conversation with Mayor Naheed Nenshi. We ask the Mayor to reflect on the city’s participation in the first-ever “National Day of Truth and Reconciliation” and get his thoughts on what needs to be done to battle COVID-19, as case numbers continue to trend very high in the Province.

The Mayor’s “tenure” is coming to a close, with the municipal election just over two weeks away. Have you done your ‘homework’ ahead of “heading to the polls?”  We hear details on a new website created by the Calgary Public Library aimed at ‘empowering’ Calgarians to make an informed vote on October 18th.

Next, we head Stateside to catch up with Jackson Proskow, Global News Washington Bureau Chief. Jackson brings us details on a disturbing trend in the US ... a record increase in murder rates over the past year.

Finally, we take a look at the challenges faced by businesses during the pandemic, when it comes to staffing, and the effect these shortages will have on the Canadian Economy. We hear the results of a new study from the Business Development Bank of Canada.

On this, Truth and Reconciliation Day, we're joined by our friend Paul Kuster, Calgary writer, comedian, former broadcaster and Indigenous advocate, to help us figure out what we, as individuals, can do better to support our Indigenous friends and community.

Today on the program, we devoted a large amount of our time to reflect, on this our nation’s first “National Day of Truth & Reconciliation”.

We speak with Paul Kuster, former TV Journalist, Writer and Indigenous Advocate. We asked Paul to tell us what non-Indigenous people can do to observe this day and be better “allies” to our First Nations neighbours.

Then we hear the gripping story of Gerry Shingoose. Gerry is a 9 year Residential School Survivor, she shares with us details of her childhood, and her recollection of being taken from her family and sent to a Residential School in Manitoba.

Then, It’s another way to learn more about our First Nations Culture, Tourism. We speak with Keith Henry, President & CEO of the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada, on the options available and the importance of supporting Indigenous run businesses in our country.

Finally, we meet Keevin Rider, an Indigenous Artist whos work is being featured at a special art Exhibit at South Centre Mall. We hear Keevin’s story and his inspiration behind his artwork.

South Centre Mall will be featuring an Indigenous Art Exhibit in partnership with Colouring it Forward Reconciliation Society -- this morning we were joined by one of the artists feature in the exhibit -- Keevin is a self-taught Alberta based artist from Tsuut'ina First Nation. A love and respect for nature and the traditional ways of life have always been an inspiration for Keevin as depicted in much of his work.
