We begin with a look at the Federal Election campaign, specifically the not so ‘friendly’ side of political campaigns – which includes mud-slinging, attack ads and ‘mob style’ protests. We speak with a Professor of Political Science on whether these negative actions are now the ‘norm’ here in Canada, during the election process.

On the topic of the upcoming election, Canadians have the chance to see what the leaders of the major parties have to offer tonight – with the second “French language” debate. We catch up with David Akin, Chief Political Correspondent with Global News, on what we can expect.

It’s been a real “horse race” between Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau and Erin O’Toole of the CPC over the past few weeks.  We take a look at the latest polling numbers, done exclusively for Global News, with Darrell Bricker – CEO of Public Affairs with IPSOS.

And finally, it’s “International Literacy Day”. We hear about the many great resources and programs available, particularly for kids, at the Calgary Public Library.

We begin with a conversation with Alberta’s Leader of the Opposition, Rachel Notley. We ask Ms. Notley for her reaction to Premier Jason Kenney’s announcement on Friday of new COVID-19 restrictions now in place for the Province, including indoor mask mandates and the $100 “incentive” now being offered up to unvaccinated Albertans, to get the ‘jab’.

Next, it’s our weekly discussion with Mercedes Stephenson – Global News Ottawa Bureau Chief – and Host of “The West Block”. With less than two weeks until the Federal Election, we get the latest from Mercedes on the campaign strategies of the three major political parties – including the ‘mudslinging’ that’s starting to “creep in” as we move closer to September 20th.

After a ‘staggered start’ last week – all Calgary kids will be “hitting the books” this week with school back in session. Our Dave McIvor looks at the concerns held by many parents who are sending their kids back to class – amidst the “4th wave” of the pandemic.

And finally – after missing last year – the “Calgary Expo” is back. We had the chance to meet one of the ‘big names’ appearing at this year’s edition – James Marsters, who played the vampire “Spike” on the cult-favourite “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” tv series.
