Dear Jeff & Rebecca,

I’m a manager at a company in Fort Worth and we’ve been looking to fill a position for the last several months and I’ve found a candidate that is great. She is extremely qualified and I think she would be a great asset to the team. However, I have one setback. I find her extremely attractive. I am single and under other circumstances, I wouldn’t be concerned but because I will be her direct superior that she reports to, I’m hesitant to hire her as I don’t want my feelings to affect the way I would manage her at work.

What should I do?

You may have heard us talk about our friend Dan Black as he is going through a really difficult time with his son, Joshua. Back in May, Joshua was in an accident on a trampoline where he broke his neck between C5 and C6 and lost the ability to move his arms and legs.

Even though Joshua's healing has progressed in many ways, he also is facing some very difficult obstacles as well so if you could just continue to pray for his healing as the doctor's continue to find ways to help Joshua heal.

Our horizontal relationships are directly related to our vertical relationship with God. If don’t understand who we are and what we have in Christ, we can fall into relationship-sabotaging behavior and make the same mistakes over and over. Many of us walk around believing that God loves us, but have a hard time grasping that God likes us, too. Ephesians 1:6 tells us that God chose us to be his adopted children because it pleased him—because he wanted to—not because he knew we would walk an aisle and say a prayer one day. When God looks at you, it is through eyes of deep, personal affection. He loves you, yes, but he really likes you, too.

I have a dear friend that I've known for a very long time. She has been praying about hosting a foreign exchange student and has decided to move ahead with it. Here is my dilemma: she has put me down as a character reference, and I can't, in good conscience, recommend her for this. She is a functioning alcoholic, but an alcoholic just the same.

How in the world should I handle this?
