In this episode of The Motherwhelm, I sit down with Laura, a mother of three boys, to talk about infant loss, grief, pregnancy after loss, and finding hope after unimaginable heartbreak.
Laura shares the story of her beautiful son, James, who passed away at just eight weeks old due to a rare genetic condition. With extraordinary honesty and courage, she reflects on the devastating reality of infant loss, the lifelong grief that follows the death of a baby, and the enduring love she holds for each of her sons.
Together, we explore what it means to continue mothering after loss, navigating pregnancy and birth after loss, and finding moments of hope while carrying grief. Laura's story is one of remarkable resilience, but above all, it is a testament to the unconditional love between a mother and her children.
If you have experienced baby loss, infant loss, pregnancy after loss, or you're supporting someone through grief, I hope this conversation helps you feel seen, understood, and a little less alone.
October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. In Australia, around 110,000 pregnancies end in miscarriage each year, approximately 2,200 babies are stillborn, and hundreds of families experience the death of a baby during the neonatal period. Every one of these babies matters, and every grieving parent deserves support.
