On this episode of the podcast, I talk to Matt Buyten about his mental toughness, was it learned or was it natural instinct, the early days of growing up in Reno, going to school with riders like Mike Mason, Dustin Miller, Brian Foster, riding BMX and later getting into dirt bikes but not having the resources to go racing all the time and the jobs he did at an early age that shaped who he became and how that grit and mindset paved the way for him to win his first step up gold medal in 2003 and then go head to head against Jeremy Mcgrath in 2004, separating his shoulder 3 times during the event, walking away with a silver medal. He would win 7 X Games gold medals, 12 medals all together throughout his freestyle career. He was known for having a bulldog mindset and one of the toughest competitors in our sport.
