At The Mount, we exist to glorify God as disciples making disciples through the gospel of Jesus Christ. Any Christian can read that statement and nod their head in agreement, but if you were to drill down and ask, “What makes a disciple?” what would you say? Our desire as a church in 2019 is to put one foot in front of the other as we learn (and relearn) what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ.

Easter is the celebration of the pinnacle of our faith: the resurrection of Jesus Christ. If Jesus is not alive, we are to be pitied the most among men! However, since Jesus is alive, His resurrection life now becomes our resurrection life. Jesus, the conquering King! Jesus, the Resurrected Savior who conquered Satan, sin, and death! Jesus, who by the resurrection, seals His completed work on this earth and sealed for us eternal life.

Good Friday gives us the opportunity to solemnly reflect on the sacrifice of Christ on the cross. We can become numb to our participation in the death of the cross. It wasn’t ultimately the Pharisees or Romans soldiers that killed Christ, it was us. Our sin, hammer blow by hammer blow, was the reason for His death. Our willful defiance of the God of the cosmos is the greatest offense in human history. This law-breaking could only be paid by a priceless payment. Jesus fulfills both the wrath of God against sin (bearing/borne) and removes from us all of our sin, guilt, and shame (bled).

The Gospel is a beautiful diamond. With each turn of the diamond, light hits the different facets and reveals a beautiful display of light that wasn’t seen before. The penetrating depths of gospel brilliance take time to study and ponder as we see the transformation of salvation and sanctification in the lives of people.
