Soooo, I was asked to watch Insidious. I took a while to do it because I don't like scary movies.  For a different style of episode, I decided to record an episode in which I kind of made fun of the film while I watched it (ala Mystery Science Theatre 3000).
From the minds of James Wan and Leigh Wannell, the creative duo behind the Saw franchise, comes Insidious. The film follows the Lambert family as their oldest son Dalton enters into a coma. Thought to be a normal coma at first, the family soon discovers that there are more sinister forces at bay. This leads the family to confront its own history and venture into the Further to save their son.
Will this new style be funny? Tune in to be (more than likely) disappointed!!!

What happens when you mix a story by one of the greatest horror writers of all time with the film savviness of one the greatest film directors of all time? The result is 1980’s The Shining, directed by Stanley Kubrick, adapted from Stephen King’s book of the same name. The Story of The Shining sends us to the Overlook Hotel in Colorado, to where Jack Torrance (played by Jack Nicholson) takes a job as the hotel’s winter caretaker. He moves in with his wife Wendy (Shelly Duvall) and son Danny (Danny Lloyd), who unknowingly has a great telepathic ability to see and hear things others can’t. As the winter rages, the Torrances find out that the hotel is not all that it seems, and that will turn out to have deadly consequences.

While some moviegoers see The Shining as a simple story about a family tormented by an evil hotel, I see a movie chalked full of behind the scenes stories and hidden messages to be explored. By 1974, Steven Spielberg had just released his first feature length film and Peter Benchley published his first novel. Little did these two rookies know that they would combine to make one of the most famous movies of all time. What started off as an idea about a fish, turned into a New York Times bestseller and an Academy-Award winning film.
Jaws tells the story of small-town police chief Martin Brody (played by Roy Scheider). When he is confronted by a string of shark attacks, he must recruit the marine biologist Matt Hooper (played by Richard Dryfeuss) and the grizzled shark hunter Quint (played by Robert Shaw) to hunt down and destroy the beast.
While the story of Jaws has become engrained into our modern Pop-culture, the story of how the book became a movie has become the stuff of Hollywood legend. The over-blown schedule. The doubled budget. The hair-pulling decision to shoot the film on the REAL Atlantic Ocean. And of course, to top it off, the main star of the show, the shark, would not work. It is from this tattered production that the titan known as Steven Spielberg was born as he had to craft a movie that was in a lot of trouble without the main "star".

For a bit of a shorter episode this week, I am taking a look at the dynamic plasticine duo of Wallace and Gromit by watching their first two film outings. A Grand Day Out released in 1989 and The Wrong Trousers released in 1993 both garnered Oscar nominations for the duo's creator, Nick Park, with The Wrong Trousers winning in 1994.
Wallace (voiced by Peter Sallis) is an eccentric inventor and his faithful (and also mute) dog Gromit are always up to some sort of hijinks. From going to the moon to get some cheese, to renting a room to a criminal burglar penguin, it is never a dull moment at 62 West Wallaby Street!

The 1982 classic E. T. is a beloved movie the world over. Its heart-warming story about the friendship between a lonely boy and a lost alien has delighted movie-goes for almost 40 years. Along with great performances by Henry Thomas as the lonely boy Elliot, a very young Drew Barrymore as his sister Gertie, and a mature-looking Robert MacNaughton as Elliot's older brother Mike, and one of the greatest film scores put to cinema, E. T. is on many's list of one of the greatest films of all time. But when looking at what inspired the creation of E. In 1995, after 9 years of struggling to make ends meet in selling computers and making short animated films, PIXAR animation collaborated with Walt Disney Studios to fulfill their lifelong goal of creating the first computer animated film. Toy Story eventually went on to pave the way for the animation industry that we know today. Not only is it a landmark film in the history of cinema, but it's also a warm, light-hearted comedy with great characters and and terrific performances by Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Don Rickles, Wallace Shawn, Jim Varney, Annie Potts, and so many more. Released in 1958, A Night to Remember may not be as  well known as James Cameron's 1997 "Titanic", but to Titanic historians and history buffs, it is highly regarded as one of the most historically accurate film adaptations of the night of April 14-15th, 1912. As I sit down to watch A Night to Remember, we'll talk about some of the events surrounding the night of the sinking, to a far off ship that passengers could see in the distance, to miscommunication among the crew, all the way to an overturned lifeboat that saved 30 men. Told through the eyes of Titanic's second officer Charles Hebert Lightoller (played by Kenneth Moore), A Night to Remember is a must watch for any of those interested in the Titanic story.
