The Movie Draft House

New month means new theme! This month - August 2023 - we're reviewing films that have a main actor playing more than one role (more than one character), and to start off the month we're reviewing the classic(?) alien invasion film Mars Attacks! from 1996, directed by legendary filmmaker Tim Burton and starring literally everyone...but Jack Nicholson is the actor playing multiple roles.

IMDB synopsis "Earth is invaded by Martians with unbeatable weapons and a cruel sense of humor." Simple enough.

Music this month is brought to you by the Los Angeles female hip-hop duo Flyana Boss with their song "Trash Boi"! It's a bangar! Catch their music wherever you get yours!

Tune in to find out what body part gets Mark going (hint...it's not feet), why Jeff gets tripped up over whether he should bother his neighbors...morally speaking, and why Jeff hates Chicago. Tune in!

IMDB synopsis "Pippa and Thomas move into their dream apartment, they notice that their windows look directly into the apartment opposite, this will set in motion a chain of events that will lead to disaster."

When you hear Ford Taurus from Sexbuise come on the radio, you know it's erotic thriller month. So we watched the erotic thriller to end all thrillers. Michael Douglas and Sharon Stone, heat up the screen in Basic Instinct. Paul Verhoeven returns to direct his second rim in a row here in the Draft House. Let's face it, this was hot in the 90's, but it's 30 years later, is it still hoT. HoT with a capital T? Tune in, turn on.

Synopsis from IMDB: A violent police detective investigates a brutal murder that might involve a manipulative and seductive novelist.

Wooo baby, we're back with a brand new theme for the month of July 2023...and it's a HOT one! This month we're bringing you "erotic thriller" films, and...really we're just reviewing Paul Verhoeven films. It's weird. This week we reviewed the 2021 tits and ass film, Benedetta, starring Virginie Efira, Daphne Patakia, and Charlotte Rampling. It's about lesbian nuns. This episode gets messy. Tune in to find out why Jeff can't watch porn without crying, why Mark's tabs consist of French artwork, and why the most non-porn porn film may also be one of this year's best...

IMDB synopsis..."A 17th-century nun in Italy suffers from disturbing religious and erotic visions. She is assisted by a companion, and the relationship between the two women develops into a romantic love affair."

This is the end of our first annual Draft a Theme month celebrating our 2nd Anniversary. So we watched a all time classic, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Luckly, Mark is available to answer all of your turtle porn needs. I mean it all keeps coming back to how turtles have sex. What the fuck is our problem? Draft Night!!! Open a La Croix and Diet Coke. Let's do this.

Synopsis from IMDB: Four teenage mutant ninja turtles emerge from the shadows to protect New York City from a gang of criminal ninjas.

Hey Draft Housers! It's week three of our anniversary month and for "Themes of Films We've Already Picked", Mark selected Westerns and the 2007 Academy Award darling There Will Be Blood directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and starring Daniel Day Lewis and Paul Dano. Did he hit the theme this time? Tune in to find that out and also why DDL is on the Mount Rushmore of all time actors, why Mark is insecure of Jeff's other podcasts, and just why huge milkshakes are a thing! Tune in!

IMDB synopsis, "A story of family, religion, hatred, oil and madness, focusing on a turn-of-the-century prospector in the early days of the business."

Music this week has been brought to you, once again, by the Mason Pace Band with their song "Mister Van Gogh"! Catch their music wherever you get yours from.

This is is the first annual draft a theme. We look back at all out past themes, pick 1 per week, then a film to fit that theme. This we Jeff picked, and surprising no one at all, he picked Van Damme week! So do we watch Bloodsport, Kick Boxer, or any of his other classic roles. Nope, were watching Double Team. Van Damme teams up with basketball hall of famer Dennis Rodman to take on Stavros (Mickey Rourke). There is not shortage of plot here. We got secret organizations, tigers, and basketball parachutes. Is this so bad it's good, or just bad. Well tune in and find out.

IMDB Synopsis: An international spy teams up with an arms dealer to escape from a penal colony and rescue his family from a terrorist.

Music this week is brought to you by the hip-hop artist Norman Sann with his song "Hummingbird". Catch his music wherever you stream/download yours from.
