EPISODE 6
Which is better: A Novel or a Movie. Is it the story that makes them good or is it the medium.
This week The Movie Log Podcast discussed these questions with Izzi’s pick Fahrenheit 451 (1966) inspired by Ray Bradbury’s iconic novel about government censorship and technology. David and Izzi talk about director François Truffaut, a pioneer of the French New Wave, design choices, story editing and casting choices. Join us for an interesting conversation about what makes a story great; is it the story itself or the storyteller.

Our first Black and White movie!
With David’s turn to pick, the TML duo discuss Billy Wilder’s 1960, Oscar-winner The Apartment starring Jack Lemmon (Some Like It Hot), Shirley MacLaine, Fred MacMurray (Double Indemnity). With the rich filmography of Wilder, Izzi and David talk about their take on screenwriting, direction and film structure (a very important concept to Wilder). The Father, Daughter team continue their conversation about romantic comedies (in this case a romantic dramedy), while discussing the fresh take this old classic has.

What makes us human? What makes up our personal identity?
Are we the same person three years in the future as we are now?
Will Izzi gloat about seeing a great science fiction movie before her dad?
In this week's episode, The Movie Log Podcast answers these very questions through the lens of Izzi’s pick, the 2009 science fiction thriller, Moon. Throughout this episode, David and Izzi discuss personal identity philosophy such as The Memory Theory from the perspectives of writers David Hume and John Locke. Moon is directed by 70’s science fiction superfan, Duncan Jones and as sci-fi superfans ourselves, we address science fiction film history with movies like Outland, Silent Runnings and Star Trek both old and new. We also talk about the genre’s legacy from the 70’s and 80’s with movies David has grown up with and how it is reflected into movies coming out during the same year as Jones’ directorial debut.

This week it is Izzi's turn to pick the movie. She knows David has a soft spot for Romantic Comedies and thought he would like About Time, written and directed by Richard Curtis and starring Domhnall Gleeson, Rachel McAdams and Bill Nighy. Izzi and David have a fun romp through the Curtis-verse as they discuss all things concerning Richard Curtis.
