As parents, we spend years preparing our kids to leave the nest. We teach them independence, responsibility, and how to navigate the world. But what happens when the world we're sending them into is scarier than we want to admit? 💔
In this episode of the Mr. & Mrs. Smith Podcast, we're having a conversation that every parent of a daughter needs to hear.
With our own daughter getting closer to college, recent headlines surrounding the Cornell sexual assault allegations have us asking some uncomfortable questions.
Are we doing enough to protect young women? Or have we simply accepted sexual violence as part of our society?
When a major college campus survey finds that roughly 1 in 4 undergraduate women experienced nonconsensual sexual contact involving force or inability to consent since entering college, we have to ask ourselves: At what point do we stop calling these isolated incidents and recognize a systemic problem?
🎙️ In this episode, we discuss:
🚨 The alarming statistics surrounding sexual assault on college campuses
🎓 The fears that come with sending our daughter away to college
💔 Why so many victims never officially report sexual assault
🍹 College parties, alcohol, consent, and personal safety
👨👩👧 The conversations parents NEED to have with their daughters
👦 Why raising sons who respect women and hold their friends accountable is just as important
⚖️ Are universities doing enough to protect students and hold perpetrators accountable?
❤️ How do we prepare our daughters for the real world without teaching them to live in fear?
This isn't about blaming men, attacking colleges, or scaring our daughters into staying home forever.
It's about acknowledging a problem that has existed for far too long and asking what we can do to change it.
As parents, we want our children to experience everything life has to offer. But we also want them to come home safe.
And sometimes those two things feel harder to reconcile than we'd like to admit.
💬 WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!
Parents: Are you more concerned about sending your daughter to college today than you would have been 20 years ago?
Women: What safety precautions do you take every day that you think men don't even realize?
Men: Has becoming a father changed the way you view women's safety?

Mental health is real—even when you can’t see it. ❤️
In this episode of the Mr. & Mrs. Smith Podcast, we’re having a conversation that too many people still avoid: mental health.
This one gets personal.
We share our own experience with postpartum depression—what it looked like inside our family, how difficult it was to recognize and understand at the time, and what we learned going through it together.
But this conversation goes beyond postpartum depression.
We talk about depression, anxiety, the pressure to appear like everything is okay, and why someone can look completely fine on the outside while fighting something very real on the inside.
Most importantly, we talk about how we can do better—as spouses, parents, friends, family members, coworkers, and simply as people.
In this episode, we discuss:
❤️ Our family's experience with postpartum depression
🧠 Why mental health struggles aren't always visible
🤝 How to better support someone who's struggling
🗣️ Why talking about mental health matters
👨👩👧 How mental health can affect an entire family
❤️🩹 What we wish we understood sooner
💙 How we can create more compassion and less judgment
Just because you can't see someone's struggle doesn't mean it isn't real.
If you've experienced postpartum depression, anxiety, depression, or another mental health struggle—or you've loved someone who has—we hope this conversation makes you feel a little less alone and encourages more of us to talk openly about what we're going through.
