  • Consistently lacklustre – podcast #469

    Manchester United 1 v Tottenham Hotspur 1
    B Mbeumo (73′)
    R Bentancur red card (78′), D Solanke (90+2′)
    Premier League
    5:30pm, Saturday 10th October 2026
    Old Trafford

Michael Carrick : “We couldn’t find a way to get ourselves into the game. With the ball, without the ball, we were off it.

“I’m not happy with the amount of points, I’m not hiding from that. We need to put things in a positive direction quickly.

“We have to be more streetwise and stubborn in the moment. It doesn’t change my belief, or confidence in the players. We can be a really good team.

“We don’t want to start games like that, it was challenging. They worked through it, got themselves in a good position, and couldn’t see the game out. That’s the most disappointing thing.

“I don’t feel let down by players making mistakes but we’ve all got to help each other be better.”

  • United scrape a point - podcast #468

Fulham 1 vs Manchester United 1
    L Martínez (63' own goal)
    M Cunha (89')
    Premier League
    4:30pm, Sunday 20th September 2026
    Craven Cottage

Michael Carrick : "I thought we should've won the game, we created enough to win the game. We had a lot of good play and the goal we did concede, it is one of those goals.

"I really liked the reaction and how we finished the game. It would be easy for it to go in another direction.

"We nearly won it at the end. We came to get the win; of course we did, but the way we finished the game is the positive we take from it.

"Their goalkeeper, the saves he has made, he was player of the match and we hit the post twice. A lot of it [our play] was good. There are things to take from it, for sure."

Michael Carrick : “We can’t accept that as a group. I take responsibility for it. The performance towards the end of the second half, that’s on me.

“We’ll all be better. We have to be better. We have a big game on Sunday that we have to prepare for. We’re out of this competition and we have to go back to winning football matches.”

What do you need to do to get better? “We’ll get better on a number of things.”

Is he feeling the boos from the fans? “Yeah of course, that’s pretty obvious! I totally understand the feelings of the supporters.

“We have to accept it. I totally accept it. It’s on me ultimately: as a team what we look like, how we play and what results you get. I take that. I’ll take the praise, I’ll take the criticism and the upset. “I totally understand it for the way the game went. We have got to win games.”

  • UTD useless, REF useless, VAR useless, CLUB a disgrace – podcast #466

Manchester United 0 vs Manchester City 1
    P Foden (sent off 23′), E Haaland (60′)
    Premier League
    4:30pm, Sunday 13th September 2026
    Old Trafford, 74,161

Michael Carrick : “The explanation I got was that he wasn’t interfering with play. I just don’t get it, I really don’t get it.

“If that’s how the rules are interpreted, that you’re not interfering with play because you’ve thrown yourself at the ball six yards from goal and pretty much nearly touched it, which then Licha [Martinez] has to react from.

“On top of that, the [offside] was a bit dubious – where we drew the line to start with. It’s worrying if that’s really how the game is seen by those who are officiating it.”

    UEFA Champions League
    8:00pm, Thursday 10th September 2026
    Old Trafford, 73,638

Michael Carrick : “I think it was kind of what we set out to achieve, good performance, individually and collectively throughout the game, the boys that started, the boys that came on pitch, clean sheet, goals, exciting football. A good night all round.

“Results-wise, it has not been the start that what we wanted. We wanted more points in the league. But performance-wise, it has been a lot of things we are looking for.

“Collectively, as a team, we have done a lot of the right things and that is why were are excited about what the season will bring. It is really encouraging for me.”

“He definitely offers a different kind of threat, that is the beauty of it really, we know what Ben gives us and there are not many who can give us what he gives us. Speed, physicality, ability to play on the last line and run in behind. Great to have him back.”

    B Mbeumo (46′), B Sesko (88′)
    Premier League
    2:00pm, Sunday 6th September 2026
    Hill Dickinson Stadium

Michael Carrick : “They’re two fantastic strikes from in and around outside the box, they don’t go in too often. I thought we did a lot of good things in the game to get us in the position we were in twice.

“Some of our attacking players was really good and we looked dangerous and done a lot of things that we were trying to do. And for the most part, I thought we dealt with them quite well.

“Maybe there’s a little bit of managing the game a little bit better.

“It hurts as we came here to win and we put ourselves in a good position.”

Michael Carrick on SKY Sports : “We’ll take a few more of them. He showed his quality today. Through the middle of the pitch, particularly Youri, Kobbi and Matheus played some really good football.

“Bruno’s done what he’s good at. He’s won awards this week and bounced back from last week. Three goals, fantastic performance.

“We’re not getting carried away. We weren’t overly down last week, everything wasn’t wrong. It was something we can improve on. Today, there are still things we can get better at.

“The result was great. We haven’t cracked it, there’s a long way to go and we’ll get ready for next week.”

  • Same dreadful mistakes as last season – podcast #462

Hull City 2 vs Manchester United 0
    S Ajayi (17′), N Mendy (38′ )
    Premier League
    12:30pm, Saturday 22nd August 2026
    MKM Stadium

Michael Carrick on TNT Sport : “Some of it was OK, there’s bits to improve on. It was never going to be perfect, but going behind and giving ourselves a lot to do makes it more difficult.

“It was a typical one of those games, with a newly-promoted team at home. You can’t give them much, they’ve got a lot to hold on to. After that, we had moments and opportunities but we didn’t have the spark to put the chances away or create any more.

“We’re bitterly disappointed with the result, but we won’t let it knock us.”

Michael Carrick speaking to Sky Sports : “I really enjoyed it. I think the boys played some tremendous football. It was a test for us coming here today. If you’re not really focused and playing at your level, then coming here, I thought it was going to be a really tough game.

“The boys were fantastic – defending so well as a team and playing some great football. We all looked so dangerous, so it was a joy to watch. It was nice to finish that way.”
