Publisher's Summary:
It has always been the prerogative of genius to batter on the portals of the Unknowable - and then thrust his soul into the crack, like the little Dutch boy, to keep the devil out. The satanic legends surrounding the unbelievable career of the great concertist Paganini leave little doubt that somewhere there is a window such as Erich Zann's, beyond which lies a world more terrible than imagination can grasp, where science dwindles to zero and incredible passions rage as winds in a vacuum. Where? Why, on the Rue d'Auseil - which one visits twice.

Lovrcrafty
Well, it's spooky, mysterious and kooky, but it is absolutely Lovecraft. It leaves one wondering what was in that room...?
Good, but not the recommended first Lovecraft story for beginners
It's hard for me to give all of the works of Lovecraft a high rating, as they often share the same general structure and theme, as with this tale. Man confronts the horrors of the universe and goes a bit mad. In this instance, he experiences true terror while looking out the window of a musician who has also been driven mad by his apartment view.
If you read this story first of Lovecraft's works, you'll probably be very neutral on the author. Opt for stories like "Dagon," instead.
This story is in the public domain, so you can check them out for free in multiple formats. I opted for the free audio production available from the Drabblecast.
