Dr. Meganne Masko and Janice Lindstrom will discuss the articles published in the Journal of Music Therapy Volume 53 number 3 (Fall 2016). In this issue, there are four articles: Analysis of Lyrics from Group Songwriting with Bereaved Adolescents (Fiore), Development of the Music Therapy Assessment Tool for Advanced Huntington's Disease: A Pilot Validation Study (O'Kelly & Bodak), Neural Activations of Guided Imagery and Music in Negative Emotional Processing: A Functional MRI Study (Lee, Han, & Park), and Training Endogenous Task Shifting Using Music Therapy: A Feasibility Study (Lynch & LaGasse).

We took a break because Janice went back to school and started a new job. Meganne moved and started a new job. But now we're ready to catch back up! Join us for music therapy journal club--where we discuss the journal articles in music therapy publications just so we can keep up with the research. All you have to do to join is listen. If you're really motivated, read the abstracts of the journal articles prior to the show. And if you're REALLY motivated, call in and share your opinions!

Dr. Meganne Masko and I are back to discuss the many, many articles in Music Therapy Perspectives Volume 34, Number 1. We'll share a summary of each article, plus our thoughts about them and how we might apply the research into our practice.

Dr. Meganne Masko and I will discuss the articles published in the Spring 2016 Journal of Music Therapy (volume 53 number 1). This edition features articles on the Music Therapy Assessment Tool for Awareness in Disorders of Consciousness (MATADOC), Parents and Young Children with Disabilities, a Meaningfulness of Songwriting Scale (MSS), and the Music Attentiveness Screening Assessment, Revised (MASA-R). We will summarize the articles and share our opinions and how we apply this research to our clinical practices.

The next Radio Show with Janice Lindstrom on April 29, 2016 at 1:30 PM (CST) will feature Dr. Petra Kern, Dr. DeLoach and their students Madison, Holly, Emma, and Garrett. They will talk about “Intercultural Competences” that are necessary to shape music therapy practice with a culturally diverse population in today’s global world. It's time for another edition of Music Therapy Journal Club to discuss the research published in the Journal of Music Therapy Winter 2015 edition (volume 52 number 4). Join us as Dr. Meganne Masko and I talk about the research articles and how we apply the research to our clinical practice or in the classroom.

Tory Sherlock is currently in the last year of her undergraduate studies at the University of Massachusetts Boston, graduating with Honors and a BA in Psychology. She is trying to continue on to graduate school for music therapy. For her senior thesis this year, she is researching the efficacy of art therapies in a variety of contexts including healing and rehabilitation. This study will focus on the perspective of the therapist and giver of treatment, not just client/patient outcome. Part of her research will include carrying out interviews with prospective therapists who are willing to answer some questions about their stance on their work, what brought them to the field, along with some other similar topics.

Since I get requests for interviews or information from students frequently, I thought I'd record this one so that other students looking for similar information might be able to use it for their projects, too.

Dr. Maganne Masko and I will talk about the most recent music therapy research published in the Journal of Music Therapy, volume 52 number 3. You can participate in journal club by reading the abstracts and listen in to our discussion so that you can stay updated on music therapy research. Or you can just listen to our thoughts and decide which articles you want to explore later.
