Production, live and touring in the US. This conversation is with the wonderful Emily (Tusks) and it was a conversation I loved having. Although a shorter talk than you're used to, we covered a lot of ground, from performing live, to production and recording her album in a barn, in France - I learned a lot about Emily's process and I'm confident you guys will get as much out of this as I did!

Aesthetic, lyrics, in-ear monitors and writing authentically. This week I'm talking Alex and Nic from Misery Kids! It was a great conversation and more in-depth than I ever expected. I got more out of this conversation than I thought and I think you will too. We speak about mental health and using lyrics as a way to ask for help.

Self-produced, restricted and dealing with frustration George Glew wrote for a year and a half without being able to perform live. This was a huge frustration to him however it actually paid off in the end. George is a singer songwriter from Wales, now living in Bristol he is already making a name for himself, on the tail end of a 3 month residency at the iconic Gallimaufry in Bristol his live performance is pretty snmesational. 

We talk about everything, and I mean everything, from playing small towns and social clubs to the music we were brought up on, process and future plans. This conversation has been one of my favourites and an absolute joy to record.

We talk about the value of Spotify playlists, discovering new music and performing live while reminiscing over our past band. Yeah, that's right! Max and I used to play in bands together and suffered the same collapse, Max chose to go head first in to a new project while I took a step back. Self-confidence, not feeling good enough, following your gut, connecting with the song. Joe Banfi has been through hs fair share of dark days and in this episode we talk candidly about mental health, dealing with rejection and feeling like music may not be doable. It was the first time I'd ever spoken to Joe but it was an incredible conversation about music and what it means. How one supporting voice can keep you from collapsing in on yourself. Joe had a friend in Kev (Communion Music) and that helped him regain focus to create Banfi, an incredible indie pop band with obscure and cutting lyrics. It's one of my favourites, give it a spin.

Still getting nervous despite his success, Tom Ogden from Deaf Havana openly admits he still struggles with managing his nerves. Talking to Tom was great fun, we've known eachother for nearly 10 years and toured together before Deaf Havana became the band we all know and love today. We discuss dealing with members leaving and how to rebuild from the ground up, being honest with your fans by making music true to the band. We talk briefly about family, along with a little about the history of Tom and how Deaf Havana came to be, going from empty rooms to 3000 cap venues!

DIY music is a core value, along with staying authentic to the music he's making. Me and Callum Moloney talk a lot about being genuine, working on a budget, and looking after your physical health. I like Callum's outlook, while he remains open to the ideas of working with others and two heads being better than one, he also retains his core values of wanting to remain DIY. We talk about the closure of music venues and being from Birmingham, we talk about the petition to save the Flapper & Firkin (go to the website and click the link to sign the it!). It was a great chat and lovely to be in the company of such a genuine guy.
