Being on the road has been pretty hectic, so after a long break from podcast updates, we're airing a flashback to Lisanne's time off in Colorado. Weather has been a huge factor in pauses on the trail, so the WV winter, the KS heatwave and the CO layover have all taken a little longer than expected. During this last stop, Lisanne spent time at a friend's ranch and gathered gear for a solo jaunt across the state into Utah with Chileno, Phin, Pistachio and Abilene, along with Kayuh and Zende. Since we are currently in the Sacramento area heading west with very little time left on the trail, these flashback episodes will give listeners a glimpse into the final few weeks and months of trail life before we end up at Point Reyes on the beach on November 28th.
Take a young woman with a passion for horses looking for a grand adventure, add American Mustangs and a host of guest riders and you have the ingredients for the “Mustang Discovery Ride.” This project tells the story of a journey across the United States on the American Discovery Trail (ADT) featuring Mustang TIP trainer, Lisanne Fear, along with her Mustangs, dogs and support team. The team is covering 12 states, coast to coast from Delaware to California, riding previously wild Mustangs while packing, camping and speaking about the power of these amazing animals. Lisanne rode out from Delaware’s historic Cape Henlopen State Park on September 28, 2021 with members of the team and is continuing her adventures through Maryland, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, and California. The documentary will detail the struggles and triumphs that she encounters, most attributed to the kindness of strangers met along the journey. We will also feature aspects of the ADT in each state, Mustang adoptions inspired by the project, college and university equine programs utilizing Mustangs, Veterans Programs in existence and other Mustang-related stories. The goal of the ride is to cover 5,000 miles across the country while inspiring the adoption of 5,000 Mustangs into appropriate homes. Through the documentary film, related podcast/vodcast and documentary-series, we are trying to reach as many people as possible to make it happen! A team of EQUUS photojournalists and videographers will contribute to the film part of the project, each adding individual creative perspective of the ride.

In this episode, Lisanne and the team encounter a little trouble with a few "less than understanding" folks, but still manage to have an amazing ride through Indiana thanks to the media publicity garnered by riding through big cities! All in all, the kindness of strangers still fuels the ride, and Lisanne and Claudia look forward to bringing in more guest riders over the next few states. We'll discuss plans to meet up with Karen Hardy during the Mustangs to Moab partner ride, adding 1,500 miles to the total journey.

In this episode of the podcast we'll check in with Hannah and Lisanne (still in West Virginia!) and will sit down for Part 2 of a conversation with Long Rider, Filipe Leite. Filipe started his first long ride in 2012 in Calgary with a destination of his family home in Brazil and continued riding over 12 countries for more than 25,000 kilometers over a period of 8 years. Felipe is one of only 4 men to cross the Americas on horseback. From grizzlies to droughts, accidents to drug lords, he faced it on the journey. The first two books of his Journey America Trilogy, Long Ride Home: Guts and Guns and Grizzlies, 800 Days Through the Americas in a Saddle (Journey America Trilogy Book 1) and Long Ride to the End of the World: A Lonely Long Rider’s 7,500 km Journey to the Land of Fire (Journey America Trilogy Book 2 ) are now available on Amazon. The World Premiere of the documentary film about his travels, The Long Rider, took place in February 2022 at the Beaufort International Film Festival. This episode includes the second half of our chat with Felipe.
