Proud people take great notice of opposition and injuries, and are prone to speak often about them with an air of bitterness or contempt. Luke 12:35, serves to explain this force of the figure: "Let your loins be girded about, and your lamps [more literally] burning, and you yourselves like unto men that wait for their Lord."
