unto. It is not enough that in general we know and reckon on it that we are obnoxious unto dangers, but we must learn what are the especial dangers, as things are circumstanced in our lives, callings, ways, times, and seasons, that are apt easily to beset us. To know and continually ponder their nature and advantages, this is wisdom, the greatest wisdom we can exercise in the whole course of our walking and profession, 1 Peter 5-8. He that takes heed in this will not likely fail in any other instance.

Christ must not be divided, either in His natures or His offices. There may be an abuse of the orthodox assertion of His deity, for if we reflect exclusively on that and neglect His great condescension in becoming flesh, we miss the chief intent of His incarnation-to bring God near to us in our nature. On the other hand, if we altogether consider Christ's humanity and overlook His Godhead, we are in danger of denying His super-eminent dignity, power and merit.

It is plain, therefore, that unless this enmity be conquered or cast out of the mind- unless the mind be freed from its corrupt agency and effects- unless the truth obtain its real power and efficacy upon the soul- unless it be so learned -as it is in Jesus,- whereby men, -put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and are renewed in the spirit of their minds, putting on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness-- unless they love and value it for the effects of spiritual peace, power, and liberty, which it produceth in them, - there will be found among them little constancy or perseverance in their profession when temptations shall concur with opportunities for a revolt from the gospel.

It is not, therefore, the gospel, but it is apostasy from it, which hath produced so many deplorable effects in the world, and which, by drenching mankind in wickedness, makes way for their misery and ruin. And this, in the vindication of the gospel, will be made in some measure to appear in the discovery of the causes and reasons of this apostasy- for let men pretend what they please, unless they have first forsaken the gospel in their hearts and minds, they would not, they could not, forsake all rules of holiness and morality also in their lives.

Ps. 119-58

By means of this illumination the renewed soul, under the guidance of the Spirit through the Word, now perceives how well-suited is Christ to such a poor, worthless wretch as he feels himself to be. The prospect of obtaining deliverance from the wrath to come through the victorious life and death of the Lord Jesus, keeps his soul from being overwhelmed with grief and from sinking into complete despondency because of the sight of his sins.

Did the followers of Jonathan Edwards actually reflect Edwards's teaching on The Imputation of Adam's Sin, The Nature of Sin, The Evidences of Regeneration, and other doctrines. Who were these theologians and how far did they go astray- Jonathan Edwards JR., Samuel Hopkins, Joseph Bellamy, Nathaniel Emmons, those were were labeled the New England Theologians and the founders of the New Divinity or New Haven Theology.
