When God sends forth His servants to preach the Gospel the Devil soon after prompts his emissaries to proclaim "another gospel": when God speaks the Devil gives a mocking echo. Satan has found that he can work far more effectively by counterfeiting the Truth than by openly denying it, hence in every age "false prophets" have abounded, and therefore we should be neither surprised nor stumbled by their number or success in our own day.

CASE 12. Shouldn't a person who is not comfortably persuaded of his being a real Christian, abstain from the ordinance of the Lord's Supper, lest he eat and drink damnation to himself? And what method must that person take to satisfy a church of Christ of his being a real Christian, who cannot relate any particular experience of the dealings of God with his soul?

You are now deprived of being in Heaven; you are deprived of hearing the gospel; the devil has been too hard for you, and has made you miss of Heaven; you are now in Hell among an innumerable company of devils, and all your sins beset you round; you are all over wrapped in flames, and cannot have one drop of water to give you any ease; you cry in vain, for nothing will be granted.
