South Africa has been appointed interim chair of the Southern African Development Community after Madagascar relinquished the position due to political developments that affected its capacity to lead the 16-member regional bloc, SADC leaders said on Thursday.

Kenya’s government has called on Tanzania to guarantee the safety of its nationals caught in the unrest following last week’s disputed presidential election.

4, In our historical archives, it was on this day 10 November 1985 when Dr. James Sebe Moroka, medical doctor, politician, and great-grandson of Chief Moroka I of the Barolong Boo Moroka in Thaba Nchu the then district of Bophuthatswana, now part of the Free State died in his village of Ratlou. He was an active member of the African National Congress and in 1949 he became its president until 1952.
