1. Nigeria - Gambia   

ECOWAS creates tribunal for Yahya Jammeh's crimes 

West African regional bloc ECOWAS on Sunday approved the creation of a special tribunal to try crimes committed in Gambia during the military dictatorship.The historic decision was announced at a summit of regional heads of state held in Nigeria's capital, Abuja. 

2. Israel -Syria- Ghana 

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed Major-General Anita Asmah of Ghana as the Head of Mission and Force Commander of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF). 

Major-General Anita Asmah of Ghana Appointed As UN's First African Woman Force Commander. She will lead UNDOF that is mandated with maintaining ceasefire between Israel and Syria. 

3. Uganda – Kampala  

Uganda’s court orders government to pay LRA war crime victims 

A Ugandan court has ordered the government to pay up to 10 million Ugandan shillings ($2,740) to each victim of Lord’s Resistance Army commander Thomas Kwoyelo, the first senior member of the rebel group to be convicted by Uganda’s judiciary.

NBC Executive Editor Suspension Taints Namibia's Press Freedom 

The suspension of Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) executive editor Anna Nicodemus is a worrying development for freedom of the media. 

Nicodemus was suspended after she made remarks about the shambolic 2024 elections, including comments about president-elect Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah's health in an interview with South African news channel. 

5. In our historical archives, it was on this day 17 December 1920 when the then apartheid South Africa was mandated to govern South-West Africa (now Namibia) by the league of nations. 

The Commission for Gender Equality conducted research on sexual harassment at Nelson Mandela, North-West and Sol Plaatje universities. Participants in the study from North-West University told researchers some students engaged in sex work to survive.
